Abhishek Singhvi is a senior Indian lawyer of the Supreme Court of India and a member of the Indian National Congress (INC). He represents West Bengal in the Rajya Sabha.

Abhishek Manu Singhvi was born on 24 February 1959 (Tuesday) (age 61; as in 2020) in Jodhpur, Rajasthan. He went on to do his BA (Hons.) from St. Stephen’s College, University of Delhi and moved abroad for his post-graduation. He completed his MA and Ph.D. from Trinity College, Cambridge, where he completed his Ph.D. Under the leadership of constitutional lawyer Sir William Wade. The topic of his doctoral thesis was emergency powers. After completing his PhD, Abhishek Singhvi went to Harvard University to pursue PIL and thus began his journey in the field of law.

Family, Caste and Wife
Abhishek Singhvi was born into a Marwari family in Jodhpur, Rajasthan. Abhishek Singhvi’s father, Dr. Laxmi Mall Singhvi, was a scholar of Jaina history and culture and he was one of the best lawyers in India. His father was appointed as India’s High Commissioner to the United Kingdom and his tenure as Commissioner was the second longest between 1991 and 1997.

His mother Kamla Singhvi was a housewife. In 1982, he married the famous Ghazal and Sufi singer Anita Singhvi. He has two sons, Avishkar Singhvi and Anubhav Singhvi.

Career
After completing his formal education and PIL from Harvard University, he returned to India and started practicing as a lawyer. In 2001, he was appointed as the National Spokesperson of the Indian National Congress (INC). He was elected to the Rajya Sabha in April 2006. In August 2006, he became a member of the Committee on Personnel, Public Complaints, Law and Justice and was a part of it until July 2011. He was also a member of the Committee of Privileges and a member of the Consultative Committee of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. In July 2011, he became the Chairman of the Personnel, Public Grievances, Law and Justice Committee, a member of the General Purposes Committee. Abhishek Singhvi has been a representative of the Indian National Congress since July 2012.

- Abhishek Singhvi found himself in dire straits when a compromising CD went viral in the media. The disc was said to feature Abhishek Singhvi in a controversial position with a woman. Singhvi, however, denied such allegations and said that the disc was tampered with by someone. In the midst of this chaos, Singhvi decided to resign as head of the Standing Committee of the Parliament. It turned out that the CD was distributed by an old employee of Singhvi and the case was taken to court. However, the issue was later settled out of court.
- The politician faced yet another controversy when he failed to submit the necessary documents to prove that the claims he made before the Income Tax Commission were legitimate. Later he was fined and asked to pay 100 GEL. 57 million fine. Payments from his account were made to pay the fees of his legal assistants and to purchase office equipment such as laptops for his employees.

- Abhishek Singhvi is a well read and knowledgeable individual and from time to time he conducts webinars with fellow lawyers or himself to educate law aspirants and young lawyers by sharing his experience and knowledge with them.
- Singhvi wrote the book “Straight Talk”. The book deals with proposing new reforms and changes in the work of the law and parliament. He suggested in the book that there should be fast-track courts to hear all election-related cases.
