Doddaallahal Kempegoda Suresh aka DK Suresh was born in Ramanagara district of Karnataka, India. According to one source, he was born on Sunday, December 18, 1966 (age 56 years; as of 2022), and according to another source, he was born on Friday, April 8, 1966 (age 57 years; as of 2023). He completed his 12th standard from Vivekananda College, Bangalore in 1985. Later, he entered the field of social services and politics.

He campaigned for the Indian National Congress with his brother DK Shivakumar, who has been an active member of the INC and MLA since the 1980s.
His first major political break was in 2013 when he won a by-election and became Member of Parliament (MP) from Bangalore Rural (Ramanagara) constituency after HD Kumaraswamy resigned.
He won the 2014 and 2019 general elections from the same constituency.
