Deepender Singh Hooda is an Indian politician who is currently a Rajya Sabha member from Haryana. He is a member of the Indian National Congress and remained a Member of Parliament in the Lok Sabha from Rohtak for three terms from 2005 to 2019. He was a special invitee to the Congress Working Committee, the Executive Committee of the Indian National Congress. He was the youngest MP when he entered politics in 2015 at the age of 27. He is the fourth generation of his family to serve in public service.

Diender Singh Hooda was born on Wednesday, January 4, 1978 (age 45; as of 2023) in Delhi. He graduated from Mayo College, Ajmer in 1993. He completed his secondary schooling from Delhi Public School, RK Puram, New Delhi in 1995. He completed his Bachelor of Technology degree from Maharishi Dayanand University in Rohtak, Haryana in 1999; He was the second leader in his class. In 2003, he pursued a Master of Business Administration in Finance and Strategy at Indiana University’s Kelly School of Business in Bloomington; He was awarded the honorary rank of Beta Gamma Sigma and appointed leader in residence for the university’s Poling Chair in Business and Government. He was the president of the university’s Asian Student Association. He completed his Bachelor of Laws in 2019 from the Campus Law Centre, University of Delhi.

He started his career as a Process Engineer in the Fabric Manufacturing Division of Reliance Industries Limited in May 1999; He was assistant manager of offshore operations coordination when he retired in December 2000. He joined Infosys as a software engineer and worked there for nine months till August 2001. After completing his MBA in 2003, he started working as a senior manager of product strategy and marketing at Dalla Corporation, USA, at Saber Corporation; He worked there for more than two years.

He joined the Indian National Congress Party in 2005 and contested the Lok Sabha by-election from Rohtak, Haryana and became a Member of Parliament. He was appointed as a member of the Foreign Affairs Advisory and Agriculture Committees. He won the 15th Lok Sabha elections in 2009 and became a member of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Human Resource Development and Members of Parliament Local Area Development Scheme. In 2014, he was again elected to the Lok Sabha for a third term from Rohtak and appointed as a member of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Energy. During his 15-year tenure in the Rohtak Lok Sabha, he helped establish many educational institutions such as the Indian Institute of Management Rohtak, a state-of-the-art Cancer Center – AIIMS-II campus at Jhajjar and many sports centres, stadiums, government schools and colleges. In 2019, he contested the Lok Sabha elections from Rohtak constituency on an Indian National Congress ticket, but lost to Arvind Kumar Sharma of the Bhartiya Janta Party.

From July 2020 to September 2022, he was a member of the Personnel, Public Complaints, Law and Justice Committee; During this period, he also became a member of the Joint Committee on Salaries and Allowances of Members of Parliament (August 2020) and the Advisory Committee of the Ministry of Finance (November 2020). He became a member of the Foreign Affairs Committee in September 2022 and a member of the Information and Communication Technology Management Committee in the Rajya Sabha in January 2023.
