In 2023, a video showing Pravesh Shukla allegedly urinating on a tribal worker in a drunken state went viral on the Internet. He was smoking a cigarette as he soaked his victim. The incident took place in June 2023 in Kubar Bazaar of Siddhi district. The identity of the victim was Dasmat Rawat (36), a resident of Karaundi village. After an online outcry, Pravesh Shukla was arrested in the late hours of July 4, 2023. The arrest came as a result of Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan’s directive to use the National Security Act (NSA), a tough measure, against Shukla. Confirming Shukla’s arrest at a media briefing, Siddhi Superintendent of Police Ravindra Verma said:
An FIR has been registered against him (Shukla) under sections 294 (using obscene language), 504 (intentional insult to provoke breach of peace) and relevant sections of the SC/ST Act.

While BJP leaders parted ways with Shukla after the video went viral, the opposition Congress claimed that Shukla was an associate of Kedarnath Shukla. Meanwhile, Praveshi Shukla’s father Ramakant Shukla also claimed that Praveshi was a representative of Bharatiya Janata Pary MLA Kedarnath Shukla. In an interview he said,
He is a BJP MLA, which is why he is being targeted by the opposition. I hope that there will be a thorough investigation into the case and that justice will be served.”
However, Kedarnath denied the allegation. She said,
Pravesh was never my representative. I just know him. “
Following the widespread release of the video and subsequent public attention, an affidavit was filed on behalf of the victim, stating unequivocally that there was no conflict between her and Pravesh Shukla. In addition, the victim expressed his belief that the viral video is in fact fake.
