In 1999, S. Muniswamy contested the Gram Panchayat elections but he lost. He then contested from Seegehalli panchayat in 2004, which he won; He also served as the Vice President of Seegehalli Panchayat. At this time he joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

In 2019, the BJP announced him as its candidate from Kolar constituency for the 2019 Lok Sabha elections. 30% of the population of Kolar belongs to Scheduled Caste, so this seat was reserved for Scheduled Caste. Muniswamy’s opponent was the Congress’s KH Muniyappa, a seven-time Member of Parliament from Kolar constituency and a former railway minister. Muniswamy emerged as a dark horse defeating Munyappa by a huge margin of over 1 lakh votes; With this, he became the first BBMP corporator to become a member of the lower house of Parliament.

On September 13, 2019, he became a member of the Standing Committee on Coal, Mines and Steel, and in 2023, he became a member of the Advisory Committee of the Ministry of Heavy Industry and Public Enterprises.

On Women’s Day, a woman broke out

On March 8, 2023, S. Muniswamy has come under fire for his regressive remarks. At a Women’s Day event, she was browsing the stalls at an exhibition when she was confronted by a clothing stall owner, she said:

Who gave you permission to set up this stall? where is your twilight Your husband is still alive, isn’t he? Not common sense!”

This incident drew a lot of criticism from members of the opposition party. Later, the BJP released a statement saying that these were Muniswamy’s personal views and the party had nothing to do with those views.

He took cognizance of the matter and went to Siddharthanagar in Kadugodi, Bengaluru, where he had a fight with a woman.
