Vedika’s murder case
On 16 June 2023, Vedika was seriously injured after being shot by Priyansh Vishwakarma at her office in Dhanvantar Nagar. Instead of seeking immediate medical attention, Priyanshi drove for about four hours with Vedika in his car. He eventually took her to Smart City Hospital, but later fled the hospital with the gun used in the shooting and the CCTV footage of his office. Priyansh then approached Vedika’s brother to inform him about the incident. On June 18, 2023, a video surfaced of Vedika receiving medical treatment at a hospital. In the footage, he was heard claiming that Priyansh was the one who shot him.

On June 19, 2023, Priyan was arrested by the police in Narsinghpur district. After his arrest, he confessed to shooting Vedika. He arrived at the Dhanwantri Nagar police station in a black Scorpion car decorated with BJP flags. Initially, the police did not register a case for 24 hours, but after Vedika’s relatives raised concerns about police inaction, a case was finally registered against Priyansh at the Sanjeevani Nagar police station. The charges against him include Section 308 of the IPC (culpable homicide not amounting to murder) and Sections 25 and 26 of the Arms Act.

According to Ashok Thakur, Vedika’s uncle, initially there was some improvement in her condition. Unfortunately, his health deteriorated due to a bullet lodged in his back, which caused an infection throughout his body. He underwent an operation on his stomach, but his condition was deteriorating. As a result, he was placed on a ventilator on June 24, 2023. His organs began to fail and on June 26, 2023, at around 11:30 a.m., doctors pronounced him dead. Doctors explained that Vedika’s organs were gradually deteriorating and even a week after the accident, the bullet could not be removed from her spinal cord.

After Vedika’s tragic death, the police have upgraded the charge against Priyansh to murder. Also, the bullet recovered from Vedika’s body was sent to the forensic laboratory for examination and examination.

Reacting to the incident, the BJP issued an official statement denying any association or connection of Priyansh with their party. BJP Jabalpur President Prabhat Sahu issued a press release saying,
Priyansh Vishwakar, a resident of Ganganagar, the suspect in the latest shooting, has not held any position in the Bharatiya Janata Party.”
