Temjen joined politics in 2018 when he was elected to the Nagaland Legislative Assembly from Alontak (Mokokchung) constituency. In 2018, he became a member of the Nagaland Legislative Assembly from Alontak constituency and in the same year became the Minister of Higher and Technical Education in the Fourth Neiphiu Rio Ministry. Later, he became the state president of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of Nagaland, and on 15 January 2020, he was re-elected as the state president of the Nagaland BJP for 2020-2023.

After forming the Core Committee on Naga Political Affairs (CCNPI) in 2021, he said that the central government was ready to resolve the Naga political issue but the Nagas should fully accept the solution. In an interview he said,

Today, if the BJP government says it is a settlement, will everyone accept it? ”
The United Naga Council (UNC) was not happy with Imna’s statement. The press service of the United Nations said,
This is very sad and very early from a “young budding politician”. We wish him to mend his ways as he has a long way to go. ”
After a backlash from tribal groups and social organisations, he expressed grief over the hurt to people’s sentiments. She said,
Any solution that comes should be as per the constitution of India and it should be under the Union of India. So whatever is good for the Naga people under the Constitution of India should continue and be done. I appeal to all fellow Nagas as well as the Government of India to work out an honorable and lasting solution so that the future generation of Nagas can live with dignity.”

In 2022, Temjen filed a complaint with the state police’s cyber crime agency against an anonymous person who blackmailed her with a manipulated adult video. He said his image was used in an adult video with the help of computer graphics to ruin his reputation. Anonymous demanded a ransom and blackmailed him to upload a vulgar video on the social network if the entire amount is not paid. inma said
