Swami Prasad Maurya served as the Cabinet Minister for Labour, Employment and Coordination in the Government of Uttar Pradesh from 19 March 2017 to 11 January 2022.

Yuva Lokdal

Swami Prasad Maurya started his political journey in 1980 when he was appointed as the Chairman of Allahabad Yuva Lokdal in Uttar Pradesh. The following year, he was promoted as a member of the State Executive Committee of Yuva Lokdal. He served as Mahamantri of UP Lokdal till 1989. In 1991, he joined the Janata Dal and was appointed as the general secretary of the party. Swami Prasad Maurya resigned from the Janata Dal in 1996.

Bahujan Samaj Party

Swami Prasad Maurya joined the Bahujan Samaj Party on 2 January 1996 and was appointed as the BSP General Secretary and State Vice President of Uttar Pradesh. In the 1996 Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly elections, Swami Prasad Maurya was elected as a member of the Legislative Assembly from Dalmau constituency. Soon after, he was appointed as a cabinet minister in the Bahujan Samaj Party and Bharatiya Janta Party allied government in Uttar Pradesh from 27 March 1997 to 19 October 1997. During this period he also held the portfolio of Khadi and Village Industries. Swami Prasad Maurya was the Leader of the Opposition from 18 September 2001 to 17 October 2001. In the 2002 Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly elections, Swami Prasad Maurya was elected as a member of the Legislative Assembly as a Dalmau Party candidate from Bahujan constituency. Swami Prasad Maurya represented the BSP as the Leader of the Legislative Council and a Cabinet Minister from 30 August 2003 to 7 September 2003. He was given the portfolio of Khadi and Rural Industries. Bharatiya Janta Party

In 2017, Swami Prasad Maurya joined the Bharatiya Janta Party and was elected as a member of the Legislative Assembly from Padrauna district of Uttar Pradesh as a Bharatiya Janta Party candidate. As a Cabinet Minister, he was given the portfolio of Uttar Pradesh Labor and Employment Exchange, Urban Employment and Poverty Alleviation. Following the expansion of Yogi Adityanath’s ministry, Maurya was appointed as Minister for Labour, Employment and Coordination on 21 August 2019. Swami Prasad Maurya resigned from the Bharatiya Janta Party on 11 January 2022.

Samajwadi Party

On 14 January 2022, Maurya joined the Samajwadi Party in the presence of its national president Akhilesh Yadav in Lucknow; The merger comes ahead of the 2022 Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly elections.
