Richard Douglas Berrington was born on Friday, April 3, 1987 (age 36 years; as of 2023) in Pretoria, Transvaal Province, South Africa. His zodiac sign is Aries. In 2006, he joined the Scotland squad for the Under-19 Cricket World Cup in Sri Lanka. Berrington progressed through the Scotland A team and made his ODI debut on 2 July 2008 against Ireland in Aberdeen. During the match against Ireland, he played an important role by scoring the victory. He made his T20 debut on 2 August 2008 against Ireland in Belfast. He has established a permanent place in the Scotland team with his outstanding performances in both Twenty20 and first-class cricket. As a result, he was selected as part of their squad for the 2009 ICC World Twenty20. In January 2017, Berrington and Callum McLeod created history by setting a new record in T20I matches. They formed a remarkable partnership of 127 runs during the game against Hong Kong. This partnership became the highest T20I partnership for Scotland. Berrington’s traditional batting style perfectly complemented McLeod’s unique and unorthodox batting, which played an important role in their successful partnership. In June 2017, he scored a personal best of 110 runs against Namibia.

In January 2018, he captained the Scotland cricket team for the 2017–18 UAE Tri-Nation Series. It was his first time leading the team in international matches. He took over the captaincy as regular captain Kyle Kotzer was unavailable for the first two matches as he was busy completing his coaching qualification. In the 2018 Cricket World Cup Qualifier, he played for Scotland and made a significant contribution. In their first match against Afghanistan, he scored a half-century and was instrumental in creating a national record by forming a 208-run partnership with Callum McLeod for the third wicket. Moreover, he scored 47 runs in an exciting match against Zimbabwe. In Scotland’s crucial 2019 Cricket World Cup qualification match against the West Indies, Berrington faced a controversial dismissal. The umpire ruled him out for leg in front of the wicket, but replays showed the ball hit him outside the stumps line, meaning he should not have been run. Unfortunately, as the tournament did not use the Umpire Decision Review System to save costs, Scotland were unable to challenge the decision.
