Shreyas Santosh Iyer was born on 6 December 1994 in a Tamil Brahmin family (age: 24 years old as on 2018) in Mumbai, Maharashtra, India.
He loved to play cricket since childhood. Iyer did his primary education at Don Bosco High School in Mumbai. He graduated from Podari College in Mumbai.

When he was just 12 years old, he was spotted by coach Praveen Amre at Shivaji Park Gymkhana in Mumbai.

Career
In 2014, Iyer played for the United Kingdom’s Trent Bridge cricket team and scored 297 runs in three matches at an average of 99 with a highest score of 171. In November 2014, he made his debut for the Mumbai cricket team in the 2014–15 Vijay Hazare Trophy. He scored 273 runs at an average of 54.60 in this tournament. He made his first-class debut during the 2014-15 Ranji Trophy. In his debut season he scored 809 runs and was the 7th highest run scorer.

In February 2015, he signed for the IPL and was bought by Delhi Daredevils for 2.6 crores. On 9 April 2015, he made his IPL debut against Chennai Super Kings. For the 2018 IPL, he became the captain of Delhi Daredevils, replacing Gautam Gambhir. In March 2017, he was included in the Indian Test squad but did not play a single match. On 1 November 2017, Iyer made his T20 debut against New Zealand and on 10 December 2017 he made his ODI debut against Sri Lanka.
