K. Shivaram (1953-2024) was an Indian actor, politician, and former bureaucrat. He was associated with the Bharatiya Janata Party and primarily worked in Kannada films. On 29 February 2024, he died in Bangalore, India, after suffering a heart attack.

Career

K. Shivaram began his career as a police reporter at the Crime Investigation Department in Karnataka in May 1973. Meanwhile, he also pursued his higher education.

Politics

In 2013, he joined the Indian National Congress (INC) as a member after retiring from his position as Bangalore Regional Commissioner. However, in 2014, K. Shivaram left INC and joined Janata Dal (Secular) as its member. He contested the legislative assembly elections from the Bijapur constituency but lost the election to Bharatiya Janata Party candidate, Ramesh Jigajinagi.

The same year, he returned to the Indian National Congress and supported the appointment of a Dalit leader, Dr G. Parameshwar, as Deputy Chief Minister of Karnataka. However, this support caused controversy during the legislative assembly elections.

On 14 October 2016, K. Shivaram joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) after expressing dissatisfaction with the recognition of a Dalit in higher positions within the Indian National Congress politics.

He was then appointed as the State Executive Committee member of Karnataka.

Other

In 2011, K. Shivaram founded the Chalavadi Mahasabha, a charitable trust in Karnataka, and became its president. He is the founder and president of Dalita Maha Sabha in Karnataka. He worked as the general secretary of the Harijan Sevak Sangh in Karnataka.
