Career
After completing her higher studies, Sonia Gehlot was employed as an architect in a Mumbai-based construction company called Kalpataru Group. In 2006, Sonia Gehlot left Shouri Constructions, a sister company of the Kalpataru Group, where she was promoted and became the company’s director the same year. He later left Shouri Constructions to found his own interior design company, Architecture & Beyond.

In 2011, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) made a series of allegations against Sonia Gehlot and Gautam Ankhadi. In the allegations, the BJP alleged that Sonia and Gautam, through their connections in the Rajasthan government, helped the Kalpataru group to win several contracts in the state. The party also alleged that Kalapataru helped the group win contracts, with the couple being rewarded with a luxury flat in Mumbai worth Rs 8 crore; However, Ashok Gehlot denied all the allegations and said that the allegations were false and deliberately leveled by the opposition and several media houses against his relatives. In its defence, the Kalpataru Group claimed that Sonia was given the flat in lieu of royalties for her work as an architect in the company.
