- In December 2021, he went on a hunger strike against illegal construction in the heritage area of Old Goa. He was on strike for five days. Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal noticed her efforts and appreciated her saying:
Amit Palekar has been on an indefinite hunger strike for the last five days. He braved the hot sun and the rain. When his health deteriorated, the doctor advised him to end the fast; However, he chose to persevere.”
- In 2021, he also uncovered a job scam taking place in the healthcare sector in Goa.
- On 19 January 2022, he became the Aam Aadmi Party’s chief ministerial candidate for the 2022 Goa assembly elections. Indian Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has announced that Aam Aadmi Party’s chief ministerial candidate for the Goa assembly elections will be Amit Palekar. Announcing his name, Kejriwal said:
Mr. Palekar is educated and loved by all the communities of the state. His commitment to the community is admirable and he is doing a commendable job during the COVID-19 pandemic. He fought for issues related to the Christian communities in Old Goa to preserve the legacy of the state… One cannot hope for a better Chief Ministerial candidate at this time and I hope Goans will elect him with a sympathetic majority.”

- After Amit was chosen as the AAP candidate, he spoke about it in a press conference and said:
We see candidates having dinner with one party and tea with another party. Do we want such a policy? Goa needs a change. We need better schools and hospitals. Politicians got richer and people got poorer. Today we have chosen either to give the same candidates or a changed and clean party. AAP did it in Delhi and will repeat the same in Goa. Give us one chance.”
