KM Sachin Dev was inclined towards politics since his college days. The young leader began his political journey while studying for a bachelor’s degree in law. He became a member of the Students’ Federation of India (SFI), a left-wing Indian student organization politically aligned with the ideology and political views of the Communist Party of India (Marxist). In no time, he became one of the most popular and respected leaders of the Students’ Federation of India at the Government Law College, Kozhikode through hard work and dedication. His main direction was to work for the welfare of students, for which he received great appreciation. Later in the college he was appointed as the union chairman of the association and the office of political affairs was also given to the post of president. His constant efforts and hard work were commendable which also earned him the post of SFI Kozhikode District Committee Secretary. In 2021, he was appointed as the State Secretary of SFI Committee in Kerala and Joint Secretary of SFI India.

After graduating from law school and already having extensive experience in the political field, he chose to pursue a career in the political field, for which he joined the Communist Party of India (Marxist). Already a well-known student leader, he was among the popular members of the Communist Party of India in Kerala. His constant efforts towards public welfare have benefited the party in many ways due to which he was selected by the party to contest the 2021 elections from Balussery State Assembly Constituency, one of the largest state legislative assembly constituencies in the state of Kerala, which is included in the Kozhikode Lok Sabha constituency. The total voter turnout in Balusari Council Constituency is 78.18 percent. KM Sachin Dev won the election by a huge margin of 20,372 votes. He secured 91,839 votes out of 1,82,253 polled in the constituency, defeating his opponent Dharmajan Bolgat of the Indian National Congress who polled 71,467 votes. Bharatiya Janata Party candidate Libin Bhaskar secured 16,490 votes.
