Uzma Kardar started her political journey in 1992 as an adviser to Lahore District Council. On 15 August 2018, Uzma was elected as a member of the Punjab Provincial Assembly of Pakistan from one of the seats reserved for women in the province. He was appointed as the Chairman of the Standing Committee on Gender Mainstreaming (Women’s Development).

Uzma Qardari was reportedly expelled from Imran Khan’s ruling Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf party 2020 days after a controversial audio clip surfaced in which she allegedly spoke about the role of the military establishment in the government and commented on Prime Minister Imran Khan and his third wife, Bushra Bibi Khan. Uzma was allegedly heard talking about the importance of the military establishment in running the government in Pakistan and allegedly claimed that Bushra Bibi possesses “jinn” and has a lot of influence over Pakistan’s cabinet decisions, including the posts of senior officials. Uzma Kardar, in the controversial audio, allegedly said,
The establishment, the government and Prime Minister Imran Khan go hand in hand. No government in Pakistan can run without the support of the military establishment.
The PTI issued an official statement citing “violation of discipline” as the main reason for Uzma’s expulsion.

In contrast, Uzma Kardar said in an interview that the private conversation was presented in a distorted and negatively charged audio with a fake voice. He added that his loyalty to Imran Khan, his wife and the party is unquestionable. Speaking about this in an interview, Uzma said:
My loyalty to my party and Prime Minister Imran Khan is unquestionable. The Chief Minister is the leader of my team and I respect him a lot. He was very appreciative of my work. ”
