Shelly Oberoi is an Indian politician, academic and teacher. He made headlines after winning the Delhi MCD elections in the 86th ward in East Patel Nagar, Delhi on 7 December 2022, after which the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) announced his name as its mayoral candidate and he became the Mayor of Delhi on 22 February 2023.

Shelly Oberoi was born in 1983 (age 40; as of 2023) in Delhi, India. After completing his studies at Faith Academy in New Delhi, he enrolled in Delhi’s Janki Devi Memorial College and obtained a Bachelor’s degree in Commerce. Shelley received the Miss Kamla Rani Prize and Scholarship for obtaining the highest marks in her B.Com. He later earned a master’s degree in commerce from the University of Himachal Pradesh. He received his Masters in Philosophy from Annamalai University in Tamil Nadu. In May 2017, he joined the Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) School of Management Studies to pursue his Ph.D. Shelley Oberoi has also completed her Post Graduate Diploma in Business Analytics (PGDBA) from Symbiosis International University in Pune, Maharashtra. From 2021 to 2022, he pursued a certificate program in business management at the Indian Institute of Management (IIM), Kozhikode. Shelley cleared the University Grants Commission (UGC) National Eligibility Test (NET) examination.

Shelly Oberoi’s political journey began in 2013 when she joined the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP). After joining the party, he worked as an activist and participated in several campaigns organized by the party. In 2020, she was appointed as the state vice-president of the women’s wing of the Aam Aadmi Party. In December 2022, he contested the municipal elections from constituency 86 in Patel Nagar East, Delhi on an Aam Aadmi Party ticket. In the elections, he defeated his BJP rival by 269 votes. Later, AAP nominated him as its mayoral candidate. In an interview, he said that if he is elected as the mayor of Delhi, his priority will be sanitation and cleanliness in Delhi. he also said

On 22 February 2023, in his fourth attempt at the mayoral election, he was elected as the Mayor of Delhi by 150 votes; BJP’s Rekha Gupta got 116 votes. On 26 April 2023, he retained the post of Mayor of Delhi after the BJP withdrew from the Delhi Mayor and Deputy Mayor elections.
Teacher and academician
Shelley Oberoi joined Delhi University as an Assistant Professor in September 2014. In January 2021, he started working as Assistant Professor (Visiting Faculty) at Narsi Monje Institute of Management Studies (NMIMS) in Mumbai. During his teaching career, he has authored more than 35 research papers and journals such as Emotional Intelligence: An Extensive Literature Review, Impact of Blockchain Technology and 5G/IoT on Supply Chain Management and Trade Finance, and Cyber Security in India: Threats and Challenges. His research papers have been discussed on both national and international platforms. Shelley Oberoi was also invited to give lectures on Gyan Darshan and Gyan Van of Doordarshan.
