Gurmeet Singh Khudiani is an Indian politician known for defeating SAD patron and five-time Punjab CM Prakash Singh Badal from his constituency Lambi in the 2022 Punjab Assembly elections.

Gurmeet Singh Khudiani was born on Sunday, September 30, 1962 (age 60; as of 2022) in Vil. & PO Khudian, Gulab Singh, Tehsil-Muktsar, Punjab. He studied in Govt. High School, Khudiyan Gulab Singh, PSEB. He attended DAV College, Malout for higher studies. His affidavit filed with the Election Commission of India says he derives his income from agriculture.

His father was associated with the Congress party for a long time, due to which he also worked closely with the Congress party for a long time. He joined the Indian National Congress officially in 2004. His continuous work and efforts made him the President of the District Congress Committee, Muksari, a position he held for five years. In 2017, he planned to contest the Punjab Assembly elections from Lambi constituency; However, captain Amarinder Singh decided to contest at the last minute. He was given the opportunity to fill the candidacy of the candidate. He became a strong contender for the post of chairman during the Congress government in Punjab.

Even after working in Lambi constituency for more than 2 decades, he was refused a ticket from the party. He, along with some of his loyal workers, announced on 26 July 2021 that they were quitting the Congress Party as they had neglected the party for a long time. He joined the Aam Aadmi Party on the same day.

Later, in an interview, he said:
We felt ignored for too long, so we took a step. After contesting the assembly elections from Lambi in 2017, even Captain Amarind Singh did not visit the seat. No one heard our problems.”
He has been declared as a candidate from Assembly Constituency No. 83, Lamb, which has been named as a rural seat in AAP’s second list in November. He won the election in his first attempt with a total of 66,313 votes. He defeated SAD protege and five-time former CM Parkash Singh Badal by a huge margin of 11,396 votes while Badal was second with 54,917 votes. The main players in Lamb constituency were Jagpal Singh Abulkhurana (Congress), Gurmeet Singh Khudiani (Aam Aadmi Party), Parkash Singh Badal (Shiromani Akali Dal – Bahujan Samaj Party alliance) and Rakesh Dhingra (BJP alliance with former Congress captain Amari Singh).
After a successful victory by a large margin, he said:
This is a victory for the people. Youth brought a new revolution. From the first day, people walked with me and supported me.”
He added,
All these years fixed matches were played and elections took place for the first time. Kejriwalji gave me a ticket from Lamb because he knew I could take Badal.
As Dana was celebrating her resounding win with family and friends in Mandi, she was asked about her opponents in an interview, to which she replied:
I don’t even want to mention Amarind Singh who believed in fixed match play and now lost by 13000 votes. Let’s talk today and now. This victory belongs to the Lambi people, who thought of Badlaav and dared to defeat Chief Badal. Badalji had good fortune, he remained the Prime Minister of Punjab five times. I am a sevak of Janta and I believe in clean politics. I believe that now Akal Purakh has blessed me too.”
On 31 May 2023, he was inducted into Bhagwant Mani’s cabinet as Punjab Agriculture Minister in a cabinet reshuffle.

- Ahead of the polling in Lambi, AAP’s CM candidate, Bhagwant Singh Mann, visited the constituency and campaigned along with Gurmeet Singh. He said that Badal was greedy for power and that during his 10-year rule in Punjab, the Khudiani family and the people of Lamb had to face brutality and corruption. He added that despite this, the Khudiyan family has always stood by the people of Punjab and this time the Lambians will teach the Badal family a lesson.

- Gurmeet’s father Jathedar Jagdev Singh Khudiani disappeared from home after he was sworn in as an MP. About 6 days later, his body was recovered from a feeder canal in neighboring Rajasthan.
