Career
After completing his formal education, Manoj Rajapaksa started working as an engineering consultant at a telecommunications company based in Malaysia called Celcom, where he worked from 2013 to 2014. After several more job changes, Manoj Rajapaksa began working with the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) as an investor and the Space System (NASA) as an investor at NASA.

- On July 17, 2022, after Manoj Rajapaksa’s parents fled Sri Lanka during the economic crisis in Sri Lanka, Sri Lankan Americans staged a protest in front of Manoj Rajapaksa’s residence in the United States. According to reports, they were demanding the return of Gotabaya’s stolen money from Sri Lanka. The protesters also questioned the means by which Manoj acquired several luxury properties in the United States in such a short period of time. During the interview, the protester said:
We are located in the Sunland neighborhood of Los Angeles. We are in front of the house of Manoj Rajapaksa, son of Gotabaya Rakhapaksa. He stole money from the people of Sri Lanka and bought this expensive property. This is our money. This is our property. There are only a few of us here today, but if your father does not leave the office, thousands of us will come here. Manoj Rajapaksa didn’t have a place to stay when he first came to the US, but now he owns several big houses in the US itself, how is it possible to buy such properties that are so valuable in such a short time? This is a very peaceful protest and the son should tell his father to resign as soon as possible.”
- After the protests that took place on 17 July 2022, many Sri Lankans criticized protesters who protested outside Manoj Rajapaksa’s home in the United States, saying that Manoj and his wife were apolitical and had never interfered in his father’s politics in Sri Lanka. Supporters also said it was wrong to connect Gotabaya’s presidency in Sri Lanka with Manoj’s life in the United States.
