He worked as an attorney at the law firm Jayakar & Partners from September 2010 to October 2014. Worked as a lawyer at Legasis Partners law firm from January 2015 to April 2017. In August 2017, he established Vis Legis Law Practice Advocates, a law firm in Mumbadia as a law firm based worldwide. He specializes in civil and criminal, real estate, insolvency and bankruptcy, arbitration, securities and corporate litigation and documentation. He has represented SEBI before the Securities Appellate Tribunal and has also acted in international commercial arbitrations involving companies such as Al Jabriah Metals Trading Limited (UAE) and CQM Ltd. (Israel). He represented the Eknath Shinde group in the Supreme Court hearing to decide which group should bear the name Shiv Sena. He is a director of Sterling Workforce Enterprises Private Limited along with Supriya Anil Shette and Rahul Narendra Hinmayr. The case of human trafficking
On 10 March 2011, the Mumbai Police registered a case against Nihar Thackeray on charges of human trafficking. Police raided a Sangeet bar in West Santacruz and rescued 9 women from the bar. The police said that these women were prostitutes and they worked in a bar located on Nihar Thackeray’s land. The police also claimed that Nihar was running bars in other areas of the city as well. However, he was later cleared of the charges.

- Nihar Thackeray supported Eknath Shinde when Eknath rebelled against Uddhav Thackeray. Nihar said in an interview that he felt Eknath Shinde was following the ideology of Bal Thackeray. Nihar said that he might join politics as well. Speaking to the media, he said:
I will be available for bypoll and BMC (Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation) polls if required. I will continue to support Shinde ji. Balasaheb has made it clear that he will never join the Congress under any circumstances. For whatever reason, things happened and the Maha Vikas Agadi government (of Sena, Congress and NCP) came to power, and then…Shinde Saheb decided to go.”
- Nihari’s mother, Madhavi Thackeray, left Mamoshree after the untimely death of Nihari’s father in 1996. His family has been living independently since then.
- Nihar and his family did not get a share of the property in their grandfather Bal Thackeray’s will, which was announced after Bal Thackeray’s death in 2012.
