In October 2015, he resigned from the National People’s Party and joined the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf. He resigned in March 2022 due to the continued ignorance of the Pakistani government and the Prime Minister. Speaking to the media about the same, Yar Muhammad said:
This is my final decision. I was a special assistant [to prime minister] Only in the volume of issuing messages. I had no authority. I have not even been invited to any meeting about Balochistan…I have not been approached by anyone including federal ministers for meetings.”
