In 2008-2009, when he was in Bihar, an event called Pratibha Ki Khoji was organized in Gopalganj district of Bihar. He held a trial and claimed 34 wickets in seven games.   • Mukesh’s father wanted him to join the Indian Army as there were less opportunities for cricket in Bihar at that time. In 2012, Mukesh was in Bihar preparing for the Indian Army, but after attempting the exam three times, he failed to clear the exam. His father called him to Bengal to help him in the taxi business. He moved to Bengal and trained for the Indian Army there. He also played tennis ball matches to sustain his passion for cricket. In an interview, his coach said that he was preparing for the army but was very passionate about cricket. His coach also revealed that he was so serious about cricket that he used to cycle 30 kilometers to the academy every day.
  • When he came to Bengal, he joined the Bani Niketan Club where he was given Rs. 400-500 for tennis ball matches. His father did not support his decision but he went against it and played cricket.
  • In 2014, he piloted the Cricket Association of Bengal’s Vision 2020 programme. In an interview, he shared his incident from the trial and said that he almost couldn’t pick up the trophy when he went to the stadium because he took a toilet break. After the trial, he passed a medical test because he was malnourished and was put on a proper diet. In an interview, he talked about it and said:

    I was the youngest of six, but we had serious financial problems. It was Rano who spoke to the then CAB secretary Sourav Ganguly, who arranged for my stay at Eden Gardens and took care of my diet.”
