Sushma Verma is an Indian cricketer who plays as a wicket keeper for the Indian women’s national cricket team. A right-handed batsman, Sush played for India in the finals of the 2017 Women’s Cricket World Cup. In February 2023, during the maiden Women’s Premier League auctions in Mumbai, Sush was picked up by Gujarat Giants for Rs 60 lakh.

Sushma Verma Devi was born on Tuesday, November 3, 1992 (age 30; as of 2022) in Shimla, Himachal Pradesh. His zodiac sign is Scorpio. Although her father wanted Sushma to be educated close to her home, Sushma studied at the Portmore Government Model School in Shimla, which was far away. He grew up playing many sports like volleyball, handball, badminton and cricket. In an interview, while sharing an interesting anecdote about her school days, Sushma said:
During my school days, we used to get refreshments at 6pm after the games. But my PT teacher and volleyball coach knew I wouldn’t come and play cricket. We didn’t have cricket bats or balls, I used badminton rackets and asked the other one to throw the shuttle. I just wanted to swing and that made me happy.”
Later, seeing his interest in the game, his parents enrolled him in a cricket academy to improve his skills. Sush attended the first batch of Indian Residential Academy in Himachal in 2009.

Sushma Verma represents Himachal Pradesh Women, Railway Women’s Cricket Team, India Women’s Green and India Women’s Blue at domestic level. In 2011, she captained the Himachal Pradesh Women’s U-19 team that played in the finals of the All India Women’s U-19 tournament. Due to lack of opportunities to play in Himachal Pradesh, Sushma Verma soon started playing cricket for the Railway Women’s Cricket Team. Soon he was selected to play zonal cricket from North Zone. In the 2022 Senior Women’s T20 Cup, Sushma was the third highest run-scorer, scoring 237 runs in seven innings at an average of 79 and a strike rate of 105.80.

Sushma Verma made her international T20 debut on 5 April 2013 against Bangladesh Women in Vadodara, Gujarat, becoming the first cricketer (male or female) from Himachal Pradesh to represent India in international cricket. In 2019, after Verma became the second highest run-scorer in the T20 competition at domestic level, he was included in the Indian squad for the West Indies tour.

Sushma Verma made her One Day International debut on 24 November 2014 against South Africa Women in Bengaluru.
In 2017, she was part of the Indian women’s team to reach the final of the 2017 Women’s Cricket World Cup, where they lost to England by nine runs. Verma took 15 wickets during the tournament.

When he tried to turn around and stand up, he felt as if someone was holding him. Once, waking up from her sleep, Sushma called her teammate Harman to describe the entire incident. However, Verma’s story turned out to be funny. When the team management came to know about the incident, they started making fun of Sushma.
- In an interview, Sushma revealed that she got interested in cricket because of her grandfather. He said that while he was in class 3 or 4, he used to listen to cricket commentary on the radio with his grandfather. Telling her that though her grandfather had never played the game, he knew the ins and outs of cricket and often shared it with Sushma. He also revealed that his grandfather was so much a cricket fan that he even knew the jersey numbers of many cricketers.
