Jatin Kashyap is an Indian cricket umpire who was charged by the International Cricket Council (ICC) for violating the 2023 Anti-Corruption Code.

Jatin Kashyap was born in Bathinda, Punjab. He graduated from Government Rajindra College, Bathinda in 2008. He also pursued hotel management at Columbia Business School in Singapore in 2009. He also received his Bachelor’s Degree in Physical Education from Rashtrasant Tukadoji Maharaj Nagpur University, Nagpur.

Career

In 2013, he started his career as a cricket referee. In 2014, he started umpiring at Punjab Cricket Association’s IS Bindra Stadium. In 2016, he started working as a cricket trainer at Baba Fried College, Bathinda. He refereed district level matches in Punjab but was not part of the BCCI panel. According to the ICC, since 2019, he has not played in district matches and has not umpired in the Punjab Cricket Umpire circuit.

  • On 22 May 2023, the International Cricket Council (ICC) charged him with breaching the anti-corruption code, leading to an investigation into “international matches in 2022”. No reason was given for the court not specifying the incidents that led to the investigation.
  • In an interview, the ICC said it was accused of “failing or refusing, without reasonable justification, to cooperate with an Anti-Corruption Unit (ACU) investigation into possible corrupt practices under the Code…including (without limitation) failure to provide any information and/or complete disclosure. ) as part of such an investigation.” The second violation, according to the ICC, was “obstructing or delaying an ACU investigation under the Code into possible corrupt conduct … including (without limitation) concealing, falsifying or destroying any documentation or other information that may be relevant to that investigation and/or that may be evidence of or may lead to the discovery of evidence of corrupt conduct. Following the charges, the court gave him 14 days to respond to the charges.
