Sanju Samson is an Indian international cricketer. He represents Kerala as the captain in domestic cricket and Rajasthan Royals in the Indian Premier League.

Sanju Viswanath Samson was born on 11 November 1994 (age 28; as of 2022) in Puluvila, Vizhinjam, Trivandrum. His zodiac sign is Scorpio. Since childhood, Samson was fascinated by cricket. Sanju spent her early childhood in a police residential colony in GTB Nagar, North Delhi. He studied at Rosary High School in Delhi. Coach Yashpal trained Samson at his DAV School Academy in Shalimar Bagh, West Delhi. Sanju studied in Delhi till 7th standard. At the age of 11, Sanju appeared for trials in Delhi for the U-13 team for the Dhruv Pandove TrophyF. Although his father, Vishwanath, was confident that Sanju would succeed, they were disappointed when Sanju’s name was missing from the notice board outside the Feroz Shah Kotla Stadium. Father and son were amazed to see that the boys, who at first appeared to be doing poorly, were able to enter. Angered by the unfair treatment, Vishwanath consoled his son with pizza on the way home and decided to return to their ancestral home in coastal Vizhinjam, Thiruvananthapuram. He started training under Ranji coach Biju Varghese (Biju George) at the Thiruvananthapuram Medical College grounds.

He studied at St. Joseph’s Higher Secondary School in Thiruvananthapuram. He then went on to pursue a Bachelor of Arts in English Literature from Mar Ivanio College, Thiruvananthapuram. In Kerala, he gained recognition in junior cricket. Former India batsman Sujith Somasundar noticed Samson’s talent after taking over as Kerala coach.

His father, Samson Vishwanath, is a former Delhi Police officer. A keen sportsman, Vishwanath played for Delhi in the 1994 Santosh Trophy football championship. Vishwanath voluntarily retired from the Delhi Police in 2009 and moved to Kerala with his family. He became a football coach in Kerala. His mother, Liji Samson, is a housewife. His elder brother, Sally Samson, is also a cricketer who played for the Kerala Under-25 cricket team. He also represented Kerala in Junior cricket.

Youth career
In 2007, he started his career as a cricketer when he was selected for the Kerala Under-13 cricket team. He captained Kerala in the 2007-08 KSCA Inter-State Under-13 tournament and won the man-of-the-tournament award, scoring 973 runs, including four centuries in five matches at an average of 108.11. As a member of the Kerala U-15 squad for the 2008-09 Vijay Merchant Trophy, he scored a double century against Goa from 138 balls. He also captained Kerala at the U-16 and U-19 levels. His excellent performance in the 2010-11 Cooch Behar Trophy earned him a place in the Indian Under-19 squad.

In 2011, he represented India in the U-19 Asia Cup. However, his poor performance in Malaysia, scoring 14 runs in three games, cost him a place in Australia’s U-19 World Cup squad. In 2009 and 2012, he was named in the Kolkata Raiders squad, but he failed to perform and was released ahead of the 2013 season. - In 2016, Samson was issued a show-cause notice by the KCA for alleged indiscipline during the Ranji Trophy. The KCA appointed a four-member committee to look into the allegations.
