Wanindu Hasaranga is a Sri Lankan cricketer who has played in many tournaments for Sri Lanka and has set many records with his bowling skills. He has played in many leagues in different countries and is considered one of the best defenders in Sri Lanka.

Pinnaduwage Wanindu Hasaranga de Silva aka Wanindu Hasaranga was born on Tuesday 29 July 1997 (age 26 years; as of 2023) in Galle, Sri Lanka. His zodiac sign is Leo. He attended Richmond College, Galle, where he started playing cricket at the age of twelve. He took part in cricket practice for the Under-13 team and started as a fast bowler. He later became a good omniscient, much to Fielding’s approval. His name rose in inter-school cricket in 2014 when he took 12 catches in a match. He later met coach Lamkal de Silva, who was impressed by Hasaranga’s good arm speed and persuaded him to become a leg-spinner. He later played in many inter-school tournaments, including the Red Bull Campus Cricket Tournament in 2017. He later pursued his career in cricket.

Domestic

He made his first-class domestic debut on 26 February 2016 at the Sri Lanka Ports Authority Cricket Club (SLPACC) against Bloomfield; He went without a lock; However, he shone with the bat and scored 87 runs in the first and 6 runs in the second. He played his debut domestic one-day match on 30 November 2015 at SLPACC against Tamil Union in the AIA Premier Limited Over tournament. He later played in various domestic tournaments in Colombo, Dambulla and Galle. He performed brilliantly with 10 wickets in the first-class match and 6 wickets for 24 runs in the one-day match and was selected in the Under-19 squad.

He was selected in the Sri Lanka Under-19 squad in 2015 and later played in the 2016 U-19 World Cup where he took 3 wickets for 34 runs in the quarter-final against England.

He made his Test debut on 26 December 2020 against South Africa in Centurion, South Africa; He scored 18 runs in the first innings and 59 runs in the second and took 4 wickets for 171 runs in the first innings.

He made his ODI debut on 2 July 2017 against Zimbabwe in Galle, Sri Lanka and took a hat-trick in the match. On 14 March 2021, he scored his maiden ODI fifty against the West Indies in an 80-ball 60 not out and took 1 wicket for 49 runs. On 19 June 2023, in a 2023 World Cup qualifier against the United Arab Emirates, he took his first 5 wickets for 24 runs with 6 wickets.

T20I

He made his T20I debut on 1 September 2019 against New Zealand in Palekele, Sri Lanka and took 2 wickets for 21 runs. In a match against India on 29 July 2021, he took 4 wickets for 9 runs.

T20I World Cups

In the 2021 T20I World Cup in the United Arab Emirates, he played in 8 matches and was the highest wicket-taker with 16 wickets; He also scored his maiden T20I half-century against Ireland with 71 runs off 47 balls. In the 2022 T20I World Cup held in Australia, he played in 8 matches and took 15 wickets with best bowling figures of 3 wickets against UAE.

Indian Premier League (IPL)

He made his IPL debut on 20 September 2021 for Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in the 2021 IPL season against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). RCB bought him for 10.75 crores in the 2022 IPL season auction. In a match of the 2022 IPL season against Sunrisers Hyderabad on 8 May 2022, he took his first 5 wickets in the IPL and took 5 wickets for 18 runs.

He played for Sylhet Sixers in 2017-18 Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) and later for Khulna Tigers in 2021 BPL. He represented Jaffna Stallions in the 2020 Lankan Premier League (LPL) and was named the man of the tournament for his 17-wicket haul. He played for Jaffna Kings in 2021 LPL season and Kandy Falcons in 2022 LPL season.
