Wiki/Biography

Atharva Tide was born on Wednesday, April 26, 2000 (age 23; as of 2023) in Akola, Maharashtra. His zodiac sign is Taurus. He did his schooling at Bishop Cotton School (BCS), Nagpur. He did his BA from Dr. Ambedkar College, Nagpur, Maharashtra. He loved to play cricket since childhood. According to his father, Thaide bought a lot of toys as a child, such as small tricycles, dolls, action figures and hot wheels, but his favorite was a plastic ball and stick that he carried everywhere. His father saw him doing shadow practice, after which he realized his desire to play cricket. His father built a box net on their plot, bought a bowling machine and also installed lights so that he could practice even in the dark. He used to go to the Akola Cricket Club (ACC) grounds in the morning for practice. After training there, he would put on his school uniform and go to school during the day. After returning from school at 1 p.m., he would go to practice again at around 3 p.m. According to his father, he practiced in the nets until 1 am. Later he enrolled in the Venskarkar Cricket Academy. In an interview, the father revealed how he and his wife had to battle with Atharva during his cricketing journey. In the interview, he also said,

Devyan (Atharva’s mother) and I don’t remember whether I was going to a celebration or a gathering at my relatives’ place. Even during Diwali, it is a bit difficult for us because we cannot go anywhere and we cannot attend the guests properly. As part of mental support, I arrange for someone to travel with Atharva during his tours and matches. Atharva scoring a triple century against Madhya Pradesh in the Cooch Behar Under-19 Cup is my favorite moment.

  • In 2023, when Atharva was asked to walk out in the 15th over of Punjab Kings’ innings against Delhi Capitals (DC) after scoring 55 runs off 42 balls, former India batsman Mohammad Kaif criticized the PBKS decision citing the example of Rinku Singh and Rahul Tewat. In an interview he said,

Extremely bad decision to ask him to come out. Why are you talking about Rinku Singh and Tewatia? Rinku Singh bowled at the start and Tewatia was 13 off 21 balls. After that they got into five six. Thaide scored 130 goals and played alongside Liam Livingstone. Livingston played fast and Thaide played his part. He is an uncapped player who used to hit fours and sixes. He winked and you asked him out when it was time to hit six. A very bad decision because whoever came after that – Jitesh Sharma, Shahrukh Khan and Sam Curran – all came and went. If the decision was good, I would praise them. If you check the statistics, when a set batter is asked to come out, how many times has the new batter won the game? Show me the stats, I’ll admit defeat.”
