Amy Hunter is a professional cricketer who plays for the Ireland women’s national cricket team. He also plays for several of Ireland’s domestic teams, including the Dragons and Typhoons. He is known for his bowling and innings skills.

Amy Hunter was born on Tuesday 11 October 2005 (age 16 years; as of 2021) in Malahide, Dublin, Ireland. His hometown is North Belfast, Ireland. He started playing cricket at the age of seven with his two older brothers. He once revealed that the best thing he liked about cricket was hitting sixes. A year later, his training began at the Northern Cricket Union (NCU) and then at the Shapoorji Pallonji Cricket Academy in Ireland.

Soon after playing for domestic teams at various age groups, she came under the radar of the national selectors and was selected in the Ireland Women’s T20 squad for 2020. It was in October 2021 when she made her international debut in the Women’s One Day International against Zimbabwe.

Career

He first played with his father for Instonians VI (Junior League). Two years later, her cricketing journey began playing for Instonians Under 11 (Boys), NCU Under 11 (Boys), NCU Under 15 and Under 17 Girls, Ireland Under 15 Girls, NCU Women and The Dragons Super 3 team. Her first highlight in cricket was a match between NCU Women and North Western Women in which she took three wickets and four balls.

In 2016, he scored his highest knock of 63 not out against the Society of Irish Youth (CIYMS) while playing for the NCU Under 11 team in the Quoile Cup. With his consistent performances in the past, he was called up to the national team several times, but he failed to make the starting eleven. He made his international debut on 24 May 2020 against Scotland at the Stormont Cricket Ground in Belfast, Ireland. Later in November 2020 at La Manga, Spain, she replaced Shauna Kavanagh (suspended due to her negative COVID report). On 5 October 2021, she made her Women’s One Day International debut against Zimbabwe in her home country, Harare Sports Club. In an interview with Sportsound Extra Time, he said:

He did not perform well in the first three matches and scored only seven runs in those games. She batted at number seven in the first match and scored just two runs before being bowled by Zimbabwe’s Josephine Nkomo, but in the fourth game she etched her name into the history books, becoming the youngest cricketer to score an international century (both male and female). The fourth match was on October 11 and coincidentally, October 11 is her birthday and the day is also celebrated as International Girl Child Day.

Ireland was leading the series 2-1 until the fourth ODI. Zimbabwe gave Ireland a chance to look down the field first. Ireland lost their first wicket for 40 runs. With one down, Amy came out to bat. He took the score to 144 before his partner Gabby Lewis (highest scorer in the series) was dismissed for 78. Their captain Laura Delaney came in at No.4 and put on 147 runs before being dismissed in the 68th over. Amy played the leading role and remained undefeated till the end with 121 points.

His team scored 312 runs in 50 overs. On the other hand, Zimbabwe lost wickets at constant intervals and could only score 227 for the loss of eight wickets. Amy Hunter was awarded “Player of the Match”. Interestingly, only 40 runs were scored in boundaries and yet he could almost run the ball. The score posted by his team is Ireland’s highest one-day international total for both men and women. Their previous best was 309 against the Netherlands in 2009.
