He grew up as an only child in a single family with his mother in North London. He initially played football and was introduced to cricket by his neighbor Zach Carr. Talking about his unconventional route to cricket in an interview, he said,

He was one of my best friends growing up. We lived in a cul-de-sac so we could play outside. We both joined a club together, a boys’ club, and it just grew from there.”

Carr then took Dunkley to Finchley Cricket Club for cricket training, where he began his fledgling career with the club’s boys’ teams. At the time, Dunkley was unaware of women’s cricket. She discovered women’s cricket when someone suggested she go to Middlesex girls’ under-11 trials. In 2009, his mother’s connection with the people at Mill Hill School helped him get an athletic scholarship there. Later, she played as the only girl in the first XI alongside the boys at Mill Hill. He obtained a degree in sports science from Loughborough University.

He entered the Middlesex County system in the under-11 age group and played in the under-19 age groups. At the age of 14, she made her debut for the country in a match against Sussex in the 2012 Women’s Twenty20 Cup. He scored two runs and bowled two overs without a wicket in the match. After scoring 323 runs in four matches in the Middlesex Women’s County Championship, Dunkley won the Middlesex Women’s Sunshine Garden Center Most Valuable Player of the Season 2019 award.

She was the leading run-scorer in the 2019 Women’s County Championship with 451 runs. In 2020, he left Middlesex to play for Surrey. She played for Surrey Stars in the 2016, 2017 and 2018 Women’s Cricket Super League (WCSL) (also known as the Kia Super League (KSL)) and Lancashire Thunder in the 2019 season. 2018 WCSL was his best season in which he took 6 wickets and scored 98 runs including 66 against Southern Vipers. He also claimed a wicket in the tournament final against Loughborough Lightning, helping Surrey Stars win the title.
