Shivam Mavi was born on Thursday, 26 November 1998 (age 24; as of 2023) in Noida, Uttar Pradesh. His zodiac sign is Sagittarius. Shivam Mavi impressed the selectors with his fast bowling and was picked in the Delhi Under-14 squad. He hoped to be selected for the Delhi Under-16 team; However, when he was not selected, he moved to Uttar Pradesh, where he was selected for the Uttar Pradesh Under-16 team. He made his debut for Uttar Pradesh in the Vijay Hazare Trophy on 19 September 2018 against Saurashtra, in which he took 5 wickets for 73 runs, including a hat-trick in the 50th over when he dismissed Chirag Jan, Arpit Vasavada and Jaidev Unadkat.
The award was given to Shivam Mavi for taking the most wickets in the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2018-19.
He made his Ranji debut for Uttar Pradesh on 1 November 2018 in the 2018–19 Ranji Trophy against Goa and took 4 wickets for 25 runs in the first innings. In the 2022-23 Ranji Trophy match against Bengal, he took 6 wickets for 55 runs in the first innings and took 8 wickets for 120 runs in the match. He also played some useful shots with the bat.

He made his debut for India U-19 on 23 July 2017 against England U-19 in Chesterfield, England. He performed well in the 2017 zonal-level Challengers tournament, taking 9 wickets in 4 matches, which caught the attention of the BCCI selectors. In December 2017, he was selected in the India U-19 squad for the 2018 U-19 World Cup in New Zealand. He performed superbly to help India win the U19 World Cup under captain Prithvi Shaw and coach Rahul Dravid, taking 9 wickets in 6 matches at an average of 18.88 and an economy of 4.12.

He made his debut for the India A team against the South Africa A team on 27 August 2018 in the 2018 India Quadrilateral Series match. He played for the India Under-23 team in the 2018 and 2019 ACC Emerging Teams Asia Cup.

He played his first T20I match on 3 January 2023 against Sri Lanka at Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai. He took 4 wickets for 22 runs and helped India win the match by two runs. He was bought by Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) for Rs 3 Crores at a base price of Rs 20 Lakhs in the IPL 2018 auction. He made his IPL debut on 14 April 2018 against Sunrisers Hyderabad. In IPL 2018, he took 5 wickets in 9 matches at an average of 54.00 and an economy of 9.64. He did not play in IPL 2019 as he was injured. In IPL 2020, he took 9 wickets in 8 matches at an average of 23.55 and an economy of 8.15. In IPL 2021, he took 11 wickets in 9 matches at an average of 21.18 and an economy of 7.24. He also produced his best bowling figures in the IPL, taking 4 wickets for 21 runs against Rajasthan Royals.

In the 2023 IPL auction, he was bought by Gujarat Titans for 6 crores against a base price of 40 lakhs. During the selection, he said that he was happy with his selection and that he wanted to be selected in the Gujarat Titans team. He said he worked on beating him and also developed a special delivery to annoy Batman. He also praised the other players and management of the franchise, especially captain Hardik Pandya and batsman Shubman Gill. She said,
I am very happy to play with Shubman. Obviously, I feel very good because we played together in the under-19 days. We played our Under-19 series together, then the World Cup together, then we were in Kolkata Raiders together, then we played in India and now Gujarat Titans. He suffered multiple injuries after the 2018 U19 World Cup and missed the entire cricket season. He was diagnosed with an ACL (anterior cruciate ligament) injury, then a stress reaction and later another injury. He spent 8 months at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) to recuperate. It is assumed that he lost a little pace due to injuries. He used to drive around 150 km/h and after recovery he was shooting at 140 km/h. He has been working hard on fitness to keep his body strong and thanked the NCA physios for helping him recover. She said,
