Dr. Ashok Kumar Mittal is an Indian educationist who is the Chancellor of Lovely Professional University. He was elected to the Rajya Sabha from Punjab in March 2022.

Dr. Ashok was born in Jalandhar, Punjab. He studied at DR Jain National High School, Jalandhar Cantt. He holds LLB degree from University Regional Campus, Jalanhar and Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar. Later, he was awarded Doctorate Honoris Causa by Atal Bihari Vajpayee Vishwavidyalaya, Chhattisgarh.

academic career
In 2001, it started an affiliated college, Lovely Institute of Management. Affiliation created many problems in Ashok’s desire to educate students. In 2005, he received approval from the Punjab government to establish a private university, Lovely Professional University. In an interview, Dr. Ashok spoke about how he worked to keep LPU’s motto alive and said:
LPU started with the motto to prepare students for industry unlike other traditional universities. Great importance was given to the development of human resource who were ready to be engaged in the industry and also to contribute to the development of the society and the country. This gave way to the slogan of LPU – “Transforming Education, Transforming India”. LPU is a multidisciplinary university that makes the student experience more rewarding than an institution with a limited number of subjects.”
Political career
On 21 March 2022, he was nominated to the Rajya Sabha by the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) from Punjab. He was elected to the Rajya Sabha on 24 March 2022.

- He received the LMA Vardhman Entrepreneur of the Year Award in 2013.

Facts/Trivia
- In 1991 he entered the automobile business and started dealership with Bajaj and in 1996 he started dealership with Maruti.
- Dr. Ashok has always been interested in academics and in an interview he said that he pursued an academic career because he wanted to make some changes in the education system.
- Dr. Ashok’s father started a sweet shop business which was later run by his brothers who had to drop out of school to take care of the business. Dr. Ashok did not drop out and graduated. He worked in a shop during the day and studied at college in the evening.
- In 2019, LPU was the first private university to be visited by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. LPU has been visited by many celebrities and presidents and prime ministers of other countries.
