He was first noticed by veteran cricket coach Suresh Batra, who told former Delhi cricketer Kartar Nath about his bowling skills, especially the googly. Nath was later asked to attend the trial after which he was selected for Dena Bank in the Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA) league. Speaking about this in an interview, Nat said:
He hit some really good googles and at first glance, we knew this guy had huge potential. So, we entered the team of “Dena Bank” and they were given a scholarship.”
Nat also tried to select him for the under-19 team; However, he failed. He then played for Madras club DDCA. In the 2021–22 season, Nath approached former India player Gursharan Singh, then a member of the Delhi Cricket Advisory Committee, to review his bowling. Singh was impressed with Sharma’s bowling skills and Sharma was eventually selected for the Under-25 team in Delhi after the intervention of DDCA president Rohan Jaitley (son of Arun Jaitley), who helped Sharma sort out his troubled paperwork. Singh spoke about this in an interview and said:
Kartari told me about the boy and I was impressed with his bowling. He had some issues with his paperwork, but DDCA president Rohan Jaitley ensured that everything was sorted out and the selectors eventually picked him in the Under-25 squad.
Indian Premier League (IPL)
Suyash Sharma was acquired by Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the 2022 auction for the 2023 IPL season at his base price of Rs 20 lakh. He was asked to attend trials at the KKR Academy in Mumbai, where KKR scouts, including Abhishek Nayyar, were impressed with his skills. Former Delhi Under-25 coach and India bowler Pankaj Singh said Suyash can bowl at good pace, making it difficult for batsmen to anticipate his delivery. She said,
Before the auction, Abhishek (Nayyar) called me to check on Suyash and some other youngsters. And I remember we discussed his Googles and how he can be a surprise to any team. The unique thing about him is that he can bowl leg spin and googly at good speed. Beaters are having a hard time choosing his googles.”
KKR head coach Chandrakant Pandit said Suyash has a fighting spirit and has performed well in KKR’s test matches. She said,
We have seen him in our Test matches. It moves quickly through the air. It’s hard to pick it up because it takes the bowls away from the dough and into the dough. He showed good attitude and fighting spirit in the camps.”
In his debut match against Royal Challengers Bangalore on 6 April 2023 at the Eden Gardens, Kolkata, he performed brilliantly and took 3 wickets for 30 runs in his quota in 4 overs, including the wickets of Dinesh Karthik, Anuj Rawat and Karn Sharma to help KKR win the match.

KKR captain Nitish Rana mentioned Suyash’s name in the post-match conference and said that he is a confident player and has made good use of the opportunity he got. She said,
Suyash is a confident young man and he has faith in himself. He made his chances count and it was great to see him bowl that way.

- His coach Kartar Nath said in an interview that his mother called Nath in 2020 during the onset of Covid-19 and told him that Suyash would no longer play cricket due to financial constraints; However, Nath managed to convince her to continue with Suyash.
