Yasin Malik was born on Wednesday, April 3, 1966 (age 57; as of 2023) in Maisuma, Srinagar. His zodiac sign is Aries. Yasin Malik graduated from Sri Pratap College, Srinagar. According to Malik, at a young age he witnessed violence against Muslims on the streets of Kashmir by security forces, which was one of the reasons he turned to the gun movement. He was among the first men to cross the Indian border in 1988 to Pakistan for military training. Militancy and ceasefire
In 1988, Yasin Malik moved to Pakistan-administered Kashmir, where he underwent weapons training at the ISI’s terrorist camps in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (POK). In 1989, he became a key member of the then militant organization Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF), which declared its aim to liberate Kashmir. Malik also admitted his guilt in an interview with Tim Sebastian on BBC’s Hardtalk. He has confessed to killing several armed and unarmed people in Kashmir, including that of Justice Ganju and the killing of four armed forces personnel in a deadly attack by JKLF militants in 1990.
Cases against Yasin Malik
- In April 2019, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) arrested JKLF chief Yasin Malik in connection with a case related to funding of terrorist and separatist groups in Jammu and Kashmir. The NIA said Yasin Malik had received Rs 15 million from Watali on April 7, 2015, and that he used some of the money to fuel unrest in the Valley after the killing of Hizb-ul-Mujahideen chief Burhan Wani in 2016.
