Umesh Pal joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in April 2019 in the presence of Minister Satya Pal Singh Baghel. He quit the BJP and joined the Samajwadi Party (SP) eight months before the 2022 Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly elections. He reportedly tried to contest the 2022 UP Vidhan Sabha elections from Phaphamau constituency on a Samajwadi Party ticket; However, according to some sources, he was not given a ticket even though he had a donation. 20 GEL in the party fund. Raju Pal was an Indian politician who became a member of the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly on a Bahujan Samajwadi Party (BSP) ticket in 2004. When Raju Pal defeated Atiq Ahmed’s brother Ashraf in the 2004 by-elections, he eventually became a threat to the political careers of Ahmed and Ashraf. The political controversy somehow turned into a personal rivalry. On January 25, 2005, when Raju Pal was on his way home from Swaroop Rani Nehru Hospital in Allahabad, a car overtook his Qualis. Raju was attacked by a group of gangsters in Sulem Sarai area. Raju Pal’s murder was a sensational case that attracted national attention and Attik was accused of being his assailant. The case of kidnapping and murder of Umesh Pal
On 28 February 2006, Atiq Ahmed’s goons kidnapped Umesh and threatened him not to testify in court, after which Umesh filed an FIR at the Dhomanganj police station in Allahabad (now Prayagraj) against Atiq and Ashraf. A special MP-MLA court in Prayagraj found Atiq Ahmed, advocate Saulat Hanif and Dinesh Pas guilty of abducting Umesh Pal on March 28, 2023; Special MP-MLA court Judge Dinesh Chandra Shukla convicted them under Section 364-A (kidnapping or abduction for murder) of the Indian Penal Code. However, the court acquitted seven persons, including Atiq Ahmed’s brother, Khalid Azim, Ashraf. On March 27, 2023, the Uttar Pradesh Police took Atiq Ahmed from a Gujarat jail to Prayagraj after a 24-hour road journey. Umesh Pal was shot on February 24, 2023 as he was getting out of the back seat of a Hyundai Creta SUV in Prayagraj; Two of his policemen were also killed.

On February 24, 2023, Umesh Pal was shot dead by gunmen identified as Atiq Ahmed Goni near his house in Sulem Sarai area of Dhomanganj. The assailants reportedly hurled crude bombs at Umesh Pal and fired several rounds of ammunition. After Umesh’s death, his widow Jaya Pal filed an FIR against 27 people, including Atiq Ahmed, his wife Shaista Parveen, Atiq’s two sons and Khalid Azim’s brother Ashraf. They were booked under Sections 147 (sedition), 148 (sedition, armed with deadly weapons), 149 (unlawful assembly), 302 (murder), 307 (attempt to murder), 506 (criminal intimidation) and 120b (criminal conspiracy) of the Explosives Act and Criminal Law Amendment Act.
