confrontations
Asian Kabaddi Championship match
In 2023, Rahul expressed concern over the team selection process for the Asian Kabaddi Championship. According to him, not a single meritorious player was selected at the international tournament. in his words,
The selection process for the Indian team at the event is very simple – players who play in national championships are selected for the camp and players who perform well in the camp and tests are selected for the team. But this time, I am not satisfied with the selection, because some players were selected in the team without even playing in the national championship, and this is unfair to other players and the rules of the sport. For example, this year the Uttar Pradesh team won gold in the national championship and not a single player from that team was selected for the Indian national team. My question to the authorities is that after defeating all other teams the players of the winning team are not selected and the losing players are in the Indian team. The selection this time was based on the selectors’ own choice, and not according to the criteria.
