Suchetana Bhattacharjee was born in 1982 (age 41; as of 2023) in Kolkata, West Bengal. He did his schooling at Pata Bhavan, Kolkata, West Bengal. He received his BA in Political Science from Presidency University, Kolkata, West Bengal. When he was in college, he was associated with the Students’ Federation of India (SFI) at Presidency University in Kolkata. However, he did not continue to participate in politics. In an interview, she expressed that the part of politics was not necessary for her just because she was Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee’s daughter. After graduating from college, she became socially active and actively raised awareness on various environmental issues. He organized the Aranyak Wildlife Film Festival at Nandan every year, where films on nature and wildlife were screened for four days. In the interview, he expressed his passion for saving the environment and mentioned that he used to work as a zookeeper.

Since 2014, he has been in a relationship with Suchanda Mukherjee, who is a media professional. In an interview, she mentioned that her partner is heterosexual and was often asked why she lived with a transgender man. In the interview, he talked about his partner and said:
We have been friends since elementary school. He was supportive and protective. In 2004 we realized that we were more than friends. Marriage is not a priority. Due to space constraints, we moved to the same building on Palm Avenue where my parents live. It was my grandmother’s apartment. In 2014, we moved to an apartment on Sarat Ghosh Bagh Road.”

The seminar titled “The Story of Pride Month” was organized by the People’s Aid Committee, and the statement was shared by Suprabha Roy, the founder of the LGBTQIA + Democratic Association. It was reported that Suchetana was planning to undergo sex reassignment surgery and adopt the name ‘Suchetana’. He started the legal process and obtained the necessary certificates for the procedure. In an interview, he revealed that he had identified as male since his Montessori days and said that at 41, he was able to make his own decisions. He also mentioned that his father knew his identity since childhood. In an interview he said,
I am in the middle of a medical transition. The trial will begin soon. But my voter ID, Aadhaar card and PAN card still have ‘female’ as my gender. I shall be addressed as Suchetan Bhattacharjee alias Suchetan Bhattacharjee.’

Confrontation
In 2013, West Bengal Industries Minister Partha Chatterjee accused Suchetana of running an NGO and receiving financial benefits from it. Chatterjee also claimed that he received financial assistance from the Tatas to support his organization. The allegations came after Suchetana’s father, Buddhadeb, questioned Mamata Banerjee’s honesty in an interview and suggested an independent inquiry into her family’s finances. This created an uproar in Bengali political circles as it was rare for any politician to openly question Mamata Banerjee’s integrity, especially on television. Regarding the allegations, Suchetana explained that he ran an organization that worked on wildlife films from 2004 to 2007. He stated that his organization has never received government funding and he has not personally received any financial gain. In an interview, he talked about it and said:
I am sure that the present state government has all the records and information about this organization and the government can conduct any investigation to find out the truth of what I am saying now. Trinamool Congress leaders and ministers are running a false campaign by implicating me and Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee and I also want to make it clear that I have never received any financial support from Tata. This is an absolutely false statement made by Trinamool Congress ministers and leaders and I am sure that these leaders do not have any document or evidence to justify their allegations against me.

- As a child, he had an adorable appearance and preferred to dress in a more masculine style with boyish hairstyles. However, he did not face any difficulties in school or college as his friends and teachers supported his choice. When he visited his father’s office, many people often called him “Dada”. In an interview, he revealed that some educated people questioned his sexuality.
- She said that when people in their community questioned their relationship, not many people came forward to support them or take a stand.
- In 2011, there was a case where a girl named Paromeeta allegedly duped flat owners in Mumbai by falsely claiming to be the daughter of West Bengal CM Buddhadeb Bhattacharya. She rented a flat in Jogeshwari, Mumbai in 2007, posing as the CM’s daughter. Based on this false claim, the owners agreed to rent the apartment. According to the owners of the apartment, Paromeeta stayed with them for three years and constantly asked for money. He showed them fake Income Tax Department documents that his house was raided and Rs. 29 million GEL was recovered. He also asked their daughter for a loan of Rs. 15 GEL and took a personal loan. 20 GEL in the name of their son. In an interview, their son Sanjeev spoke about the incident and said:
I work in retail and earn 60,000 GEL per month. But after the loan he took in my name, I get only 2000 GEL. He signed a contract agreeing to pay in monthly installments. But he stopped the payments in February 2010. He also maxed out my credit cards. He also sold their flat in Malad for Rs 40, even though it was worth it. 70 GEL. In November 2010, he told them he had cancer and had to go. He cheated Rs. 2.8 million of them. They filed a case against Parimetha in the Economic Offenses Wing (EOW) for committing the fraud.
- In 2021, Suchetana’s aunt Ira Basu received a pension order from the Kharda School Inspector (DI) after twelve years of retirement from a government school.
