Vijay Nair is an Indian businessman known for being the founder of the indie music and artist management company Only Much Louder (OML). He made headlines on 28 September 2022 when he was arrested by the Central Bureau of Investigation in Delhi in connection with the Excise Policy scam case.

Nair began his career at the age of 15 doing marketing gigs for Procter & Gamble’s web portal Masti.com. After a brief stint at P&G, he worked for an online magazine called Gigpad. At Gigpad, he had a writing role that required him to travel across the country following bands and their gigs. While working at Gigpad, he met the rock band Acquired Funk Syndrome and started working as their manager. Soon after, he dropped out of college and started managing bands as a full-time job. In an interview, he spoke about the same and said:
I thought I’d quit for a year at first, but then I started managing other bands and it just took off from there. It wasn’t like I learned anything in college.”
A year after Nair began managing Acquired Funk Syndrome, he also began managing the popular Bombay-based rock band Zero, where he met Girish “Bobby” Talwar; Talwar was the band’s bass player. In 2003, Nair made a big breakthrough in his fledgling artist management career when he joined Pentagram, India’s most popular rock band, as manager. Vishal Dadlani was the frontman of the band. He co-founded the artist and event management company Only Much Louder in 2002 with Girish ‘Bobby’ Talwar and Arjun S Ravi in Mumbai. The company started unofficially in 2002 as an independent artist management venture by Nair and was officially founded by Talwar and Nair in 2006. The company has produced various music and comedy programs such as The Dewarists, MTV Sound Trippin, AIB Roast and Stage42. Eventually, OML ran a digital publishing house, a video production house, a booking agency, a record label and a live events company. In addition to organizing programs, his company also runs its own ticketing and technology platform, Insider. in., which was acquired by PayTM in 2017.

He joined AAP in 2014. From 2018 to 2019, he planned social media strategy, party events and fundraising for the party. In 2019, he started managing the party’s political campaign. In 2020, he volunteered for the Aam Aadmi Party’s campaign for the Delhi Legislative Assembly elections. Harassment by a cyberstalker
In 2017, Vijay made headlines as a victim of cyberstalking. It all started way back in 2015, when a netizen using a variation of the word Kettak as a name made derogatory comments on Vijay’s multiple tweets. Netizens interfered in his chats with other people, especially women, and responded to his conversations in an obscene manner. After a long struggle, Vijay was able to find out the identity of the netizen, who turned out to be a woman he knew. The woman worked for a company called The Viral Fever, which was a competitor to OML. During interrogation, he claimed that it was his boss, TVF founder Arunabh Kumar, who had forced Nair to harass him. However, the police found that Arunabh Kumar was innocent. Since cyberstalking is not an offense under the IT Act, the woman was not arrested or charged.
Accused of sexual harassment
In 2018, Caravan magazine published an article on Nair alleging that he had a toxic work environment for female employees. Nair was accused of sexual harassment when he was CEO of OML. The report also states,
He asked the woman to go into the bathroom with him and told the other at 2 a.m. that he needed a massage. He even sent the woman explicit images, including one of a man ejaculating, without her consent.”
Arrested in Delhi Excise Policy Scam
In 2022, Nair was arrested by the CBI in Delhi in connection with the Excise Policy scam. Referring to Nair, AAP spoke about him and said:
We strongly condemn these unconstitutional and illegal methods being used by the BJP. All allegations against Vijay Nair and AAP leaders are false and completely baseless.”
Facts/Trivia
- He dropped out of college at the age of eighteen and began managing leading Indian indie bands including Pentagram, Zero, Pin Drop Violence and more. He wanted to take a break and go back to college, but after his business flourished, he never went back to college.
- His family did not prevent him from leaving college, as they thought that he would not waste his time sitting perfectly at home, but work at his business.
- In an interview, he said that he had no knowledge of music before starting the business. In an interview, he talked about it and said:
I started listening to bands when I was 15-16 years old. I started listening to Indian bands before international bands. So I got into it more seriously. For me, my journey has been building a business and loving doing it, as opposed to loving the music itself, because the music came after I started the company. Before that, I was not a major music connoisseur. First of all, I was a fan of what I was doing and I wanted to work and do something.”
