Facts/Trivia

  • In 2011, when he was a student at MMK College in Bandra, he invested heavily in the college festival, Lakshya, to make it a major event. He organized lunch for around 600 students at Taj Lands End. He also booked three rooms in a hotel where students played guitar and casino. Zeeshan paid the expenses. To promote the event, 8 hoards of 20 buses were advertised ‘Zeeshan Siddique presents Lakshya 2011’. In the interview, he said that his father was paying the expenses and he had no idea about it. The father later said that the college had not told his son to advertise and did not want his son to be involved in any controversy. In the interview, he also added,

I studied in MMK college and contributed to its event because of my attachment to the institute. Is it wrong to spend money for a good cause? Regarding Zeeshan, I never asked the college authorities or the Lakshya Organizing Committee to promote him.

  • In 2021, the Bombay High Court ordered the Maharashtra government to investigate the Covid-19 vaccines given to the public by actors Sonu Sood and Zeeshan. The HC statement said, “These people (celebrities) portrayed themselves as messiahs without checking whether the drugs were fake or whether the supply was legal. In this case, we ask the state to carefully examine their actions. Attorney General Ashutosh Kumbakon said in a statement that the vaccines were supplied to Zeshan by a charitable trust called the BDR Foundation, which did not have permission to supply them. Later, the Maharashtra government said the Mazgaon Magistrate’s Court had registered a case against the trust and its trustees. Actor Sonu Sood got medicines from several pharmacies at the private Lifeline Care Hospital in Goregaon.
  • In 2021, he wrote a letter to Sonia Gandhi complaining about the “mistreatment” he faced by Mumbai Chief Bhai Jagtap during public protests. In the letter, Siddiqui said that during a morcha in Dadar, Jagtap abused him in the presence of senior leaders. In the letter he said:

Before the start of the protest, a delegation of leaders came to Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Memorial, Raj Gruha to pay homage to the architect of the Constitution of India. Senior leader KC Venugopalji and HK Patilji joined the delegation. Although I was one of the four legislators from Mumbai representing the party, my name was not on the list. I was an elected representative when the policemen let me go [to the memorial]Jagtapji rushed out and told the staff not to let me be part of the delegation. When I asked him to protect me because he is my president, he used harsh words for me. “Go to hell if you feel bad about it,” he told me (sic).”

  • In 2022, he took to Twitter to accuse the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA), the BMC and the Slum Rehabilitation Authority of the Bandra East district with allegations of corruption in projects. In a Twitter post, he said:

H/East ward is full of corruption, there needs to be a thorough investigation into all the work done by MMRDA and BMC in the last 2.5 years. BKC smart parking, potholed roads, SWM fraud, poorly planned bike path, SRA fraud. I can go on and on about things!”

  • In 2022, when the Maharashtra government announced that it was preparing 300 houses in Mumbai for MLAs who hail from rural areas, Zeshan took to Twitter to talk about the decision taken by the Maharashtra government and criticized it. In a Twitter post, the government said these houses will be allotted to MLAs who are from outside Mumbai and find it difficult to buy or rent flats in Mumbai. According to the opposite party, the houses should not be given to the members of the parliament as they have a monthly allowance and can buy a flat. In a Twitter post, he said:

I don’t need a house from the Maharashtra government when thousands of people in my Vandri East congregation are not getting houses and are living in dilapidated conditions. Ask Maharashtra CM and Jitendra Avhad ji to spend this money to build their own houses instead of giving houses to MLAs.”
