In the same year, she was cast in the lead role in Raja Ki Aayegi Baraat opposite Rani Mukerji. In 2000, he played supporting roles in the Bollywood films ‘Hey Ram’ and ‘Refugee’. After working in the 2002 film ‘Bharat Bhagya Vidhata’, he had a gap of 17 years and in 2019, he made a comeback in the Bollywood film ‘Romeo Akbar Walter’ in which he played the role of Nawab Afridi. - In an interview, Shadaab Khan revealed some shocking details about his father Amjad Khan’s financial crisis despite being a great actor. She said,
My father did not have money to discharge my mother from the hospital where I was born. He started crying. My father was not seen in the hospital; He was ashamed to show his face. Chetan Anand, whose film ‘Hindustan Ki Kasam’ he had produced then, happened to see my father holding his head in a corner. Chetan Anand Saab gave him Rs 400 so that my mother and I could return home.”
- On 20 September 1973, Shadaab’s birthday, Amjad Khan signed the Bollywood blockbuster Sholay, in which he played the unforgettable role of Gabbar Singh.
- According to some sources, Shadaab was going to make his debut with Vinod Khanna’s ‘Himalay Putra’ but he couldn’t make it due to some reasons.
- In one of the interviews, Shadaab revealed that his father borrowed money from many people and after his death, only a few of them returned the borrowed money. She said,
My father had a habit of helping people and giving away a lot of money. The producers came home and gave her sob stories and promised her the keys to their houses. He saw them, but he didn’t care about the money. He even kept money with his friends, not in banks. When he died, the producers owed him Rs 1 crore of Rs 25 crore. But no one came out of this lot to pay. A few people borrowed from him and a few paid it back. But imagine how much money we lost, it was ours! About four months after my father died, a gangster from the Middle East called and wanted to talk to my mother. She told him that she had heard from unconfirmed sources that the industry owed her (late) husband Rs 1 lakh 25 lakhs; She also said that she would give this amount in 3 days because her husband was a good man. My mother flatly refused and said that her husband never received any favors from the underworld. My mother got Semabi and my sister Ahlam’s life back on track. If he had not been strong at that time, we would have been on the street. He got involved in the construction business.”
- According to Shadaab, his father wanted him to carve his own niche in the film industry and often advised him to become an actor unlike him (Amjad). Speaking about this in an interview, Shadaab said:
If you want to be a successful actor, always leave your ego at home. Be different from me and look to carve your own path.”
