Amit Singh Thakur worked as a child actor at the age of 8 in the 1971 film Upaasna starring Sanjay Khan and Mumtaz. He later tried to find work in films after working in theater for some time and was cast as the lead in Kaafila alongside Juhi Chawla and even did a few scenes; However, the film took more than 5 years to shoot and Amit started losing his hair which ended his hopes of becoming a hero. He later worked in many films like Aankhen starring Amitabh Bachchan, Aarakshan starring Ajay Devgn and Race 3 starring Saif Ali Khan.

After an unsuccessful film career, he started acting in serials in 1996. He acted in many serials like X-Zone, Des Mein Niklla Hoga Chand, Dhoondte Reh Jaoge, Daayan, Mai and Bohot Pyaar Karte Hai. He has worked in more than 72 serials. In 2011, she decided to take a break from serials as she got bored of the same type of roles she was getting. Later, he started working again as an actor in various TV series.

In 2011, he started production and started working in Shashi Sumeet productions Private Limited as Deputy Head of Operations. In 2013, he was promoted to the post of operations manager in the same company.
