Renu Devi is an Indian politician and one of the two Deputy Speakers of Bihar. She is the first woman to be appointed as an MP from Bihar. He has been elected as MLA from Bettia Assembly Constituency of Bihar four times (2000-2015, then 2020-present).

Renu Devi was born on Sunday, 1 November 1959 (age 61; as of 2020) in Bettia, West Champaran, Bihar. He completed his secondary education from MDDM College in Muzaffarpur, Bihar in 1977.

Political career

Renu Devi’s political journey began in 1988 when she joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) as a member of its women’s wing, the BJP Mahila Morcha. In 1995, he contested and lost his first Legislative Assembly election from Nauthan Assembly constituency in Bihar on a BJP ticket. Thereafter, in the next Bihar Legislative Assembly elections in 2000, the BJP fielded Renu Devi from her home constituency, Bettiah. The decision turned out to be successful for the BJP and Renu Devi as she won the seat by a huge margin. He was the Sports, Arts and Culture Minister of Bihar in the Nitish Kumar Cabinet from 2005 to 2009. In 2014, the BJP appointed him as the party’s national vice-president, a post he had held until 20 January 2005. He won back the Bettia seat in the 2020 Bihar Legislative Assembly elections and was elected as Bettia MLA for the fourth time by defeating INC candidate Madan Mohan Tiwari by 18,000 votes. Along with the victory came a major breakthrough in his career when he was named as one of the Deputy CMs of Bihar by the NDA government along with Tarkishore Prasad. On 16 November 2020, he was sworn in as the Deputy CM of Bihar.

Along with the post of Deputy CM, Renu Devi has been given additional charge of Panchayati Raj, Backward Classes Development, ECB and Industry portfolios.
