Manik Saha was born on Thursday, January 8, 1953 (age 70; as of 2023) in Agartala, Tripura, India. Since childhood, Manik was a brilliant student. Completed his schooling from Umakanta Academy, Agartala, Tripura. After graduation, he left for Patna to pursue his dream of becoming a dentist. In 1982, he obtained his Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) degree from the Government Dental College, Patna. Later in 1991, after nearly a decade of training, Manik Saha appeared for and passed the Indian Entrance Examination at the prestigious King George’s Medical College (KGMC) and received his Master of Dental Surgery (MDS) degree in 1994. Manik Saha is a specialist in oral and maxillofacial surgery.

Career
A career as a practitioner and teacher
In 1994, after Manik Saha graduated from King George’s Medical College (KGMC), he quickly rose to the position of Senior Dentist while serving in the Tripura Dental Health Service under the Government of Tripura. Throughout his medical career, Manik Saha served as a teacher at the Tripura Medical College in Hapaniya. Manik then went on to become a professor at the BR Ambedkar Memorial Teaching Hospital in Agaratala; where he was appointed as the head of the department.
A career in politics
While serving as the Head of the Department at the BR Ambedkar Memorial Teaching Hospital, Manik entered politics by joining the Indian National Congress. As a Congress leader, Manik was part of the opposition against the ruling party, the Bharatiya Janata Party. In 2016, Manik Saha left the Congress and joined the BJP.
Became BJP Tripura President
In 2020, Manik Saha replaced Biplab Kumar Deb as the president of BJP Tripura. As president, Manik Saha is accredited with enrolling more than seven million new members in the party. Manik Saha is also credited with coming up with the blueprint that led to the BJP’s landslide victory over its opponents in the 2021 polls to 13 civic bodies. In 2022, Manik Saha, before becoming the Chief Minister of Tripura, resigned as the party president.

Manik Saha managed to secure a landslide victory against his opponents CPI-M in the Tripura Assembly polls. Out of 60 seats, 40 voted for Manik Saha and 15 for CPI-M candidates. The remaining 5 mandates abstained from voting in favor of any candidate.
Chief Minister of Tripura
On 15 May 2022, Manik Saha was elected as the 11th Chief Minister of Tripura. Manik Saha replaced Biplab Kumar Deb in the Chief Minister’s office. He was chosen by the senior BJP leadership for his clean image, which will lead the party to victory in the next Tripura Legislative Assembly elections in 2023.
On 8 March 2023, he was sworn in as the Chief Minister of Tripura for the second time.
