According to some sources, Kamini Kaushal was born as Uma Kashyap on Thursday, 24 February 1927, and according to some other sources, she was born on Sunday, 16 January 1927 (age 96 years; as of 2023) in Lahore, Punjab Province, British India (now Punjab, Pakistan). According to source 1 his zodiac sign is Pisces and according to source 2 his zodiac sign is Capricorn. She did her BA in English Literature from Kinnaird College for Women, Lahore. At the age of 7, she appeared in the Hindi film Tragedy, directed by her brother.

In 1948, after her elder sister Usha died in a car accident, Kamini married her brother, Braham S Sood, who worked as a chief engineer at the Bombay Port Trust. He has two daughters named Kumkum Soman and Kavita Sahni from his elder sister. Kumkum is an author and Kavita is an artist. Kamini and BS Sood have three sons named Rahul Sood (Filmmaker), Vidur Sood (Owner of VideVid Productions) and Shravan Sood (Businessman).

Relationships/affairs

In the 2019 book Dilip Kumar: Inspiring Generations of Incomparable Icons, it was reported that Kamini was veteran Indian actor Dilip Kumar’s first love. However, Dilip did not publicly confess his love for Kamini. Kamini’s brother opposed their relationship as Kamini was a married woman and he did not approve of her extramarital affair with Dileep. At the age of 9, he started working in the radio play “Uma” in Lahore. While in college, he did a radio play for Akashvan. Indian filmmaker Chetan Anand once heard her on a radio show and offered her a role in the Hindi film Neecha Nagar (1946).
