Hanuma Vihar was born on 13 October 1993 in Kakinada, Andhra Pradesh. When Vihar was just 9, his father took him to the Gymkhana grounds in Hyderabad to watch Ambati Rayudu bat. Since then he decided to play cricket. According to his mother, he left home at a very young age to pursue a career in cricket. When he was 12 years old, he lost his father. It is also known as Kanna.

When Vihar was just 16 years old, he made his domestic cricket debut in 2009 in Hyderabad. In the 2017-18 Ranji Trophy, he scored his maiden triple century, 302 against Odisha.
