“Esther Victoria Abraham” known as Pramila was born on Saturday 30 December 1916 (aged 90 at time of death) in Calcutta, British India (now Kolkata, India). She did her schooling at Calcutta Girls’ High School and then shifted to St. James’s School because of its reasonable fee structure. He then went on to receive a Bachelor of Arts degree from Cambridge University. Immediately after graduation, he began teaching kindergarten in Talmud Torah Boys.

Haider has been in films and wrote the screenplay for Jodaa Akbar (2008). Naki was a model and married a Gujarati businessman. Later, she lived with her five children in India after her husband moved to Pakistan with his rudimentary family from Lucknow.

First Miss India

At the age of 31, Esther Victoria Abraham was crowned as the first Miss India pageant in 1947 by the fourth Prime Minister of India, Morarji Desai. She was pregnant with her fifth child when she became the owner of this title. In an interview he said,

The title was fine – it didn’t mean much to me then. It became important only after 20 years.”

After winning Miss India, she was a popular face in many magazines of the 30s and 40s. he added,

At that time it (Miss India pageant) was a more popular face pageant and since I was on the cover of most magazines in those days, I was chosen. In those days, the rules and regulations were not yet formally established.”

In 1942, Escher and her husband Zaidi founded their own production company called Silver Productions. He started raising funds for his films and has produced 16 films under his banner Silver Productions. She was the first successful female film producer.
