According to reports, problems in Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Alia’s marriage started in 2017 when media reported about Nawaz’s extramarital affair. Alia then stated that she was being harassed at Nawaz’s house. In January 2023, Alia’s lawyer stated that his client was being tortured by Nawaz and his family. In a detailed statement by Aaliya’s lawyer Rizwan Siddiquee, the actor and his family have been depriving Aaliya of basic needs such as food, bed and bathroom access and restricting her movement. On 11 February 2023, Alia Siddiqui posted a disturbing Instagram video of her argument with Nawaz. In the video, Nawaz was seen at the entrance of his home in Andheri, where he claimed he was staying at a nearby hotel and had taken his daughter Shora away for alleged visa-related procedures. In the video, Alia was heard saying:

After making various allegations against the actor, Alia revealed that she filed a rape complaint against Nawazuddin at the Versova police station on February 24, 2023. He also accused her of being silent when the mother called her children “illegitimate”. In the three-minute clip, Alia said:

Later, Alia claimed that Nawazuddin was preventing her and the children from staying at home. Security was posted to stop them from entering. Alia shared these claims in a video posted on her Instagram. According to Nawaz’s lawyer, the property is registered in the name of his mother, Mehrunisa Siddiqui. This means that the house belongs to Mehrunisa and not to Nawazuddin. It was her caretaker, not Nawazuddin, who took the decision to deny Aaliya entry into the house. Nawaz’s lawyer explained that Nawazuddin does not have the authority to make decisions regarding access to the property. The statement also said that only children were allowed on the property and Alia was not allowed because the property belonged to Nawazuddin’s mother. Later, during the court hearing, Nadeem Zafar Zaidi, Nadeem Zafar Zaidi, claimed that Alia was already married to someone else when she married Nawazuddin and that he hid this information from her. Zaid also alleged that Alia, her sister and her first husband conspired against Nawazuddin as he became a popular star. At a press conference in Delhi, Zaidi said that Alia had various names and marriages in the past, namely Anjali Kumar, Anjana Pandey, Anjana Anand and Zainab. He expressed his discomfort in attending social gatherings and going out in public due to defamatory content. Following the defamation suit, Nawazuddin expressed his desire to settle with his estranged wife and sent a draft settlement to his lawyer, Rizwan Siddiqui. Alia’s attorney questioned the timing of the draft settlement, saying a condition of any consent to the settlement would require dropping the defamation lawsuit.
