Vinod Capri is an Indian journalist, filmmaker, writer and producer. He is known for directing the 2015 Hindi film Miss Tanakpur Haazir Ho.

writer
At the age of 16, he wrote a story for the Indian newspaper Amar Ujala and received a money order worth 100 GEL. 15 for that. Later, some of his stories were published in various leading Indian newspapers such as Dainik Jagran, Dainik Hindustan and Dainik Aaj. While she was in school, one of her novels was published in a weekly series. He launched a monthly magazine “Indian Econo Patrika” at the age of 19. He wrote a book titled “1232 KMS” in 2021 which is available in different languages like Hindi, Tamil, Kannada and Telugu.

At the age of 20, he started working as a journalist in the Hindi newspaper “Jhansandesh”. He started working at Dainik Jagran in 1992 as an intern and worked there for almost four months. Then he started working as a reporter in Amar Ujala. Joining Zee News as a trainee reporter in 1995, India editor Rajat Sharma asked him to cover a story about the UPA government. In a short span of time, he became a well-established Indian political reporter. While working with Zee News, he also served as Bureau Chief in Uttar Pradesh. He has hosted many Hindi news shows as a news reporter including News top 10, Hindustan Hamara, Crime Reporter, Kaun Hai, Top 20 Reporter, Superfast 200 and Nonstop Superfast. Capri hosted a live TV show on Aarif and Gudiya (a Muslim couple; in 2004).
Producer
He worked as a producer and anchor in the weekly news show ‘Ek Aur Nazariya’ which aired on Zee India TV in 1998. For the show, he worked on documentaries on Dalai Lamaze, Homosexuals, Euthanasia, Benares Domes, Allahabad Mahakumb. During his time there, he also worked on a documentary on Aghori Sadhus of Haridwar and according to media sources, it was the first documentary on Aghori Sadhus to be telecast. From 1999 to 2001, he worked as a producer on Zee News’ morning show ‘Morning Zee’. In 2002, he was promoted to the position of Outgoing Editor of Zee News. Almost two years later, he quit his job at Zee News and joined Star News as an executive producer. After working there for almost three years, he started working at India TV as Managing Director. Vinod has produced several Hindi documentaries such as 13 December Parliament Attack, 26/11 Mumbai Terror Attack and Life of Anna Hazare.
Film director
He made his debut as a filmmaker with the Indian documentary Can’t Take This Shit Anymore. The film was based on the issues of open space banishment.
Vinod made his Bollywood debut as a film director in the 2015 Hindi film Miss Tanakpur Haazir Ho. The film was well received by critics. During an interview, while talking about the reaction of Indian celebrities to the film, he said:
It feels good when such big celebrities who have been in the industry for so many years appreciate your hard work. There was a time when I doubted the release of the film but Hirani Sahab and Anurag Kashyap helped me a lot. They watched my film and showed confidence. They believed that my work would be recognized.”
In 2015, he started his mother’s film production “Bhagirathi Films”. His award-winning Indian film ‘Pihu’ was released in 2018. The film received recognition at various film festivals such as Vancouver International Film Festival, Palm Springs International Film Festival (California), Fajr International Film Festival (Theran) and Indian Film Festival. In 2021, he released a Hindi documentary film ‘1232 KMS’ based on seven laborers who migrated to India during the Covid-19 lockdown.

In 2015, a khap panchayat in Muzaffarpur issued a fatwa following the release of the Hindi film Miss Tanakpur Haazir Ho. (The same year) Later, Indian farmer leader Rakesh Thikait demanded that the film be banned.

- As a child, he attended schools in various places such as Kendriya Vidyalaya in Andhra Pradesh, Secunderabad, Jammu and Kashmir, Udampur, Siliguri in West Bengal and Baril in Uttar Pradesh due to his father’s shifting work.
- He has shared various critical posts of Prime Minister Narendra Modi on various social media platforms. In a post on March 15, 2022, he wrote that he wanted to make the film “Gujarat Files” and asked Narendra Modi if he could guarantee that the film would be released without any hurdles.
- In 2022, Vinod recorded a video of a 19-year-old boy named Pradeep Mehra from Almora, Uttarakhand, who was seen running on the streets after returning from work at McDonald’s. He shared the video on March 21, 2022 and within hours the video went viral on social media. In the video, Capri asked the boy why he was running, to which the boy replied that he wanted to join the Indian Army and running 10 km was part of his daily practice.
