Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu is an Indian lawyer and politician who won a seat for the Congress Party from Nadaun constituency in the Himachal Pradesh Assembly elections. After the Congress won 40 seats out of 68 states, he was elected as the 15th Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh in 2022.

Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu was born on Friday, 27 March 1964 (age 59; as of 2023) in Sera village, Nadaun, Himachal Pradesh. His zodiac sign is Aries. He did his schooling at Government High School, Kasumpti, Shimla. He received his Bachelor of Laws in Government. Graduated from College, Sanjaul and Masters in Political Science from Himachal Pradesh University, Shimla. While in college, Chota ran a milk stall in Shimla. According to his mother, he was studious and worked hard even when he had to work in different places to earn money.

Political career
Sukhwinder started his political career in college. He became an activist when he was at the University of Himachal Pradesh. He later joined the student wing of the Congress, the Indian National Students Union. He remained the State President of NSUI from 1989 to 1995. He became the state president of the Indian National Youth Congress in 1998 and served in that capacity till 2008. He was the councilor of Shimla Municipal Corporation from 1992-1997. In 1997, he was re-elected as an advisor to the Shimla Municipal Corporation and served until 2002. He was elected to the State Legislative Assembly in 2003, 2007 and 2017. From 2007 to 2012, he was the Chief Whip of the Congress Legislature Party. In 2017, he was named a member of the Party’s Public Enterprises, Privileges and Business Advisory Committees. From 2013 to 2019, he served as the president of the Himachal Pradesh Congress Committee. In 2019, he was removed from the post of party president. In 2022, he contested the Himachal Pradesh Assembly elections from Nadaun constituency and won the seat. On December 8, 2022, he was selected as the CM candidate of the Congress party. He became the Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh on 11 December 2022 after taking oath in the presence of Rahul Gandhi and Sonia Gandhi.

- In 2017, Amit Shah commented on the Congress party and politics in Himachal Pradesh and in reference to Sukhwinder said that the party would not give a chance to a candidate from a non-political background and would select a candidate from an already ruling background.
- In an interview, he spoke about the struggles he faced for not coming from a political background, saying:
Yes, I had to fight at every step to survive in politics. Elites and those with political support easily find their way, even in electoral politics. But hard work and dedication to the organization paid off. Congress president Rahul Gandhi wants to bring the common workers to the fore and that is why he has appointed me to the top job. In 2013, I was elevated as the state congress president even after I lost the assembly elections. The fact that I emerged from the struggle and not from “power-oriented politics” is my strength.
