Pratibha Singh is an Indian politician and member of the Indian National Congress (INC). Pratibha is the second wife of Indian politician Virbhadra Singh, who served six times as the Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh. In December 2022, Pratibha courted controversy when her daughter-in-law, Sudarshana Chundawat, filed a case against her and her son, Vikramaditya Singh, accusing them of physical, mental and financial harassment.

2004 general elections
Pratibha contested from Mandi Lok Sabha constituency and won the seat by defeating BJP candidate Maheshwar Singh by 66,566 votes. During his tenure, he was appointed as a member of the Social Justice and Empowerment Committee, the Advisory Committee and the Committee of the Ministry of Tourism and Public Enterprises.

Pratibha Mandi won the Lok Sabha seat by defeating BJP candidate Jai Ram Thakur by 2,16,765 votes.
2014 general elections
In 2014, Pratibha lost to BJP candidate Ram Swaroop Sharma from the same constituency by a margin of 39,856 votes.
2021 by-election in Mandi Lok Sabha constituency

On 3 August 2009, a case was registered against Virbhadra Singh and his wife Pratibha Singh for their alleged involvement in illegal money transactions. In 2007, an audio tape recorded in 1989, during Virbhadra’s tenure as Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh, was released by his rival, Vijay Singh Mankotya, an Indian politician and member of the Indian National Congress, in which he spoke to Virbhadra, his former husband’s illegal office, Pratib. They have been charged under Section 120 B (conspiracy) of the IPC and Sections 7, 11 and 13 of the Prevention of Corruption Act (PCA), which deal with bribery and criminal activities. An FIR has been registered for alleged collection of disproportionate assets
On 23 September 2015, an FIR was registered against then Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh under the Prevention of Corruption Act, accusing him of amassing assets of over Rs 10 crore in his name and that of his family members while he served as a Union minister between 20120 and 2019. His wife Pratibha Singh, his son Vikramaditya Singh, his daughter Aparajita Singh and seven other associates were charged with abetting the crime. In a charge sheet filed by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), they have accused the accused of fraud and forgery as they invested unaccounted amounts in LIC policies on behalf of family members, tried to evade income tax and claimed these amounts as agricultural income earned from the sale of apples. They were booked under sections 109 (aiding) and 465 (punishment for forgery) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and Prevention of Corruption Act (PCA).
Gudia was criticized for his controversial remarks on the rape case
In June 2022, Pratibha Singh courted controversy when he referred to the Gudia rape case as “Choti Si Vardat” (a minor accident). The Kotkhai rape and murder case known as the Gudia rape case was reported in Kotkhai, Shimla where a 16-year-old girl from Shimla was brutally raped and murdered by accused Charani Neelu. During a visit to Keylong for a public meeting in Lahaul and Spiti, Pratibha passed notes and said:

Ek gaon mein ladki ke saath durvyavahar hua tha… bachi thi school ki….to BJP ke logon ne itna uska halla machaya… police ka daftar jala diya… ye kaha ki iski investigation honi chahye. As Pratibha’s video went viral on social media, she received severe criticism for defaming and disrespecting women. On 1 July 2022, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Mahila Morcha protested against him in Dharamshala, Himachal Pradesh, asking him to issue a public apology to the general public and the Gudiya family.
Accused of domestic violence
On 17 October 2022, Vikramaditya’s wife Sudarshana Chundawat filed a case in a Udaipur court against him, his mother-in-law Pratibha Singh, son-in-law Aparajita Singh, son-in-law Angad Singh and a woman accused of domestic and domestic violence in Chandigarh. Exploitation. Sudarshana, in her complaint, accused Vikramaditya of having an affair with Amrin, a 38-year-old resident of Chandigarh. No court order has been issued to issue a warrant. On the contrary, we received messages. We will not escape the law. There was no default on our side, so there is no question of issuing a warrant against us.”

- Her supporters and the locals of Shimla affectionately refer to Pratiba as Maharani as her husband Virbhadra Singh belonged to the Rajput royal family of the erstwhile princely state of Bushahri. At the age of 13, he became the 122nd Titular Maharaja of Bushahri after the death of his father Raja Padam Singh in 1947.
