In the 2017 Legislative Assembly elections, he was elected as a member of the Legislative Assembly from Zahurabad District in Uttar Pradesh on a Bharatiya Janata Party ticket. He is the president of Ekta Manchi alliance in Uttar Pradesh and he works in alliance with Suheldev Bharatiya Samaj Party.

Ompakash Rajbhar started his political career in 1981 when he got inspiration from Kashiram. This encouraged him to join the Bahujan Samaj Party. He was appointed as District Magistrate of Varanasi district of Uttar Pradesh in 1996. Later, when Bhadoh district was renamed as Santarvidha Nagar, he raised his voice against it and decided to quit the party in 2001. After leaving Bahujan Samaj Party, Omprakash joined Sonelal Patelnas party. After a year in the Apna Dal Party, in 2002, Ompakash founded his own political party in Uttar Pradesh called the Suheldev Bharatiya Samaj Party (SBSP). He started spreading his party’s visions among the local population to organize his party members and political workers. In 2017, Omprakash Rajbhar won the Legislative Assembly elections from Zahurabad constituency and in an alliance with the Bharatiya Janata Party, he was appointed as a Cabinet Minister in Yogi Adityanath’s ministry. He was given the portfolio of the Department of Development of Persons with Disabilities. On 20 May 2019, Ompakash Rajbhar was sacked from Yogi Adityanath’s ministry for his involvement in anti-alliance activities. Suheldev Bharatiya Samaj Party (SBSP) president Omprakash Rajbhar has said at a media conference ahead of the 2022 Legislative Assembly elections that his party will enter into an alliance with the Samajwadi Party soon after the polls to form an alliance government in Uttar Pradesh.

- In 2021, he caused controversy when he made a bitter statement at a political rally that every leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party should be beaten ten times with a shoe. This statement led to an FIR against him by a prominent Bharatiya Janata Party leader.
- In 2021, Ompakash Rajbhar caused another controversy when he told a media house that if Muhammad Ali Jinnah had been appointed as the first Prime Minister of India instead of Jawaharlal Nehru, then the partition of India and Pakistan would not have happened. She said,

As Shri Ganesha says Nama when worship starts in Hindu society as well as in the politics of the country, if one does not say Suheldev Nama, his prosperity in the country will not be there.
- Omprakash Rajbhar courted controversy in 2021 when he warned local parents in his constituency at a political rally that if his party came to power in Uttar Pradesh, he would make a strict rule that parents who did not send their children to school should be jailed. She said,
I will create such a law that parents who do not send to school will be imprisoned.”
- Ompakash Rajbhar tweeted in July 2021 that the DNA of Bharatiya Janata Party and Muslims were the same who married their daughters and sisters to Muslims. He was soon grilled by several social media users for his controversial statement.
