Om Prakash joined Radio India in 1937 with a monthly salary of 37 rupees. His radio programs were popular in Punjab and he was popularly called “Fateh Din”. Om Prakash got his first break in the film when he was entertaining the guests at a wedding, where the famous film director Dalsukh M. It caught Pancholi’s attention. He was urged to go to Dalsukh Fancholi’s office in Lahore, where he was offered a role in the film Das. He was paid only 80 rupees to appear in the film, but the recognition he received would be the achievement of a lifetime.

From the 1950s to the 1980s, he was recognized as the best supporting actor in films. Om Prakash has appeared in a number of Hindi films and is known for his comedy performances.
